SMART PROGRAM UPDATE

The SMART Program is an $800 million bond that provides critically needed funding for Broward County Public Schools. SMART addresses elements of Safety, Music & Art, Athletics, Renovations, and Technology at schools across the District.

The Renovations element of the SMART Program largely focuses on improving schools and the educational experience of students. A six-step process is put in place to ensure that all Primary Renovation projects are completed efficiently. Wilton Manors Elementary School is in the Design phase of its Primary Renovations. Construction drawings are being prepared, and soon a contractor will be hired to begin on-campus improvements.

  • Bldg envelope improvements (roof, window, ext. wall, etc.)
  • Fire alarm
  • HVAC improvements

As part of the School Choice Enhancement Program (SCEP), schools are allocated $100,000 to spend at their discretion. Common uses of the funds include laptops, golf carts, projectors, and classroom furniture for students and teachers.

A kick-off meeting was held and the school is now developing a ballot for parents and staff to vote on how to spend the SCEP funds.
