The Goshen Gazette
August, 2022
From the Principal - Mr. Graves
Greetings Goshen Lane Families!
Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! The past three years have certainly been unprecedented and challenging years for us all, but I am looking forward to beginning, and having a full "normal" school year. I am thinking that you are looking forward to that as well. The staff and I are thrilled to have new students and families joining us this year, and are excited to see our returning students and families. We all are looking forward to having a great school year. As always please know that we are committed to partnering with you, and doing our best to inspire, nurture, and empower your child(ren) to love learning and to achieve to their fullest potential.
In addition to working with your children, I look forward to working with you. I believe that we are stronger when we work together, and that the best learning for a student occurs when we all work together. It has been written that a rope made of three cords is not easily broken. With the home, the school, and the community working together, our students can stand strong and accomplish many things.
In the coming days and months, I look forward to seeing you. If you want to contact me, you may do so by telephone or email. Our school phone number is 614-478-5580. My email is gravesd@gjps.org. Chances are, during the school day I will not be immediately available, however my goal is to return phone calls and or emails within 24-48 hours.
One of the best ways to become involved with the school is through the PTA. I invite and encourage you to join and to become an active member in our PTA. They too are a dedicated group and work very hard to provide all of the Goshen community with an enjoyable experience. They welcome new participation/members, and would be thrilled for you to join. You will find more information about our PTA in this newsletter.
One of the more exciting things about beginning a new school year for students (parents as well) is learning who their teacher will be. Teacher assignments should be available for you to view August 5 for students in grades 1st -5th. You will be able to see that information by visiting your parent portal. If you need help accessing the parent portal page click here. To see what supplies are needed for your child's grade level, click this 22-23 school supply list link.

Reminder: Once school begins, the office will close at 2:00 p.m. If you need your child(ren) dismissed early, be sure to arrive prior to 2:00. If there are last minute transportation changes on a particular day, please notify the office and the classroom teacher as soon as you can.
I trust you are enjoying the last few weeks of summer break and are looking forward to another school year. As you begin to prepare for the return to school further in this newsletter are some important dates and information for you to know and to add to your calendar.
I am honored and privileged to serve as the principal at Goshen Lane Elementary School. I look forward to working with you and your child(ren).
Sincerely,
Dan Graves
CHANGES TO OUR SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM
The United States Congress has decided to discontinue the waivers that allowed schools to serve all meals at no cost for the past two years. Because of this discontinuance, meals will now be back to paid status. Our prices will not be increased and will remain at the pre-pandemic price. Breakfast will cost $1.50 and lunch will cost $2.75.
All families who believe they may qualify for free or reduced-price meals are highly encouraged to apply. There will be our normal carryover period for meal status until September 30th, but after that all families will return back to Paid Status until we receive and process the application.
Free & Reduced Meal Applications are now available online through your PARENT PORTAL on INFINITE CAMPUS. Please view the attached tutorial on how to access and complete the application!
