Thank You for a Great First Week
I would like to thank all of our families, staff, and, most importantly, our students for a fabulous first week back at Alward! We are a growing school community working on many initiatives to help our students have their best year yet at AES! This week, I witnessed kids playing with friends, teachers building warm, welcoming communities, PBIS implementation, students practicing procedures, and good books coming to life through reading! I also had the pleasure of getting into all of the classrooms to share one of my new favorite books, Jabari Jumps. After reading this book, I talked to all of the students about taking risks and setting goals for this year. We discussed different risks that they could take at school that make them feel nervous or scared. Some students shared risks such as learning multiplication, taking the M-STEP, making a new friend, or talking in front of their peers. We also discussed the people that would support them in taking these risks...teachers, paras, Mr. Matt, me, the office staff, and YOU! I encourage you to talk to your child/ren about the risks that they are going to take this school year and how you can help and encourage them (or give them a "pep" talk as we called it) along this journey! Thank you for partnering with us as we take risks this year to help your child grow academically, socially, and emotionally!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Melanie McClure
Mr. Matt Update
At this time, we are unsure of when Mr. Matt will return to work as he cares for his daughter and family. Many have asked how they can help. If you are interested in helping support the family, feel free to drop off cards, gift cards for gas and/or food, and/or go to the GoFundMe account that has been set up for the family. Your thoughts and kind words mean so much to the family as they support their daughter during the long journey ahead. Thank you again for being such an amazing school community who cares for, loves, and supports those in need!

ONGOING FUNDRAISERS:
Box Tops Collection: We used to collect box tops, count them and mail them in. Our school would earn money in return. The Box Top Program is changing slightly, stay tuned for more details! You can still save those box tops, but there will be a new way for us to get credit for them!
Family Fare Receipts: Save your Family Fare Receipts and turn them in to the office. That's it! So Easy! Our volunteer team will enter them. When we reach $150,000, we earn $1,000 for our school!
Paper Gator: Did you know our school has a paper gator? It is located on the east side of the building in the bus loop. Feel free to drop off the below items at your convenience.
