Fulmore Middle School Newsletter
Week of 4-11-2016
From the Principal's Desk
Greetings Falcon Families!
The answer is NINE! The question: How many years in a row has Fulmore’s choir received Sweepstakes at UIL, University Interscholastic League? This year, under the direction of Ms. Yvette Carroll, Fulmore’s advanced girls & mixed choirs gave spectacular performances this week at UIL. FANTASTIC!! It’s amazing when you think what a fabulous time it has been this year to be a member of Fulmore’s choral program. During the competition each choir sang three songs and demonstrated proficiency in sight reading. HATS off to choir!
We are at the mid-way point of our Mission Possible Saturday camp with five more Saturdays available to students for extra instruction and STAAR preparation. Students who participate are served a breakfast taco, rotate through three academic programs, and are eligible for end of Mission Possible rewards, including a field trip, for attending regularly.
Our PALS students had City of Austin City Manager, Marc Ott, share his career path with their class on Thursday as part of the Rotary Club of Austin’s distinguished speaker series. The distinguished speaker series is incorporated into the Interact program that Rotarians facilitate with our PALS class. As you might imagine, our PALS were thrilled to have Mr. Ott present and asked thoughtful questions of our guest.
Magnet registration is tonight and tomorrow morning. Thank you to all our families, students, faculty, and staff who are helping to welcome our incoming Falcons. Magnet registration also includes: a math placement test; counselor choice sheet support; band, orchestra, & choir tryouts; a REHUGO information table; and a PTA table.
Tomorrow, April 9th, Keep Austin Beautiful will host Clean Sweep, a citywide cleanup mobilizing 4,000 volunteers at 140 locations. Thirteen of the service projects are taking place at AISD schools – yay for student service! Some of the cleanups are taking place during the week while others are taking place on the Saturday. Ms. Wright and ten fantastic Falcons will be participating in this event.
The After School Showcase is on Saturday, May 7th from 9:00-12:00 noon. We will have two tables representing Fulmore: Steel band Club, and Sunshine Camps. The Keep Austin Beautiful Green Teens club may also participate; Ms. Sarah Wright is waiting on additional information from Keep Austin Beautiful.
Enjoy the weekend!

From the PTA
Fellow Falcon Families:
PTA will be hosting another Staff Appreciation breakfast on Thursday, April 14. Please consider dropping off favorite family breakfast dishes with us. Protein dishes and fruit are always greatly appreciated! Thanks to our stalwart sponsor, Jo’s Coffee, for providing the necessary caffeine for the morning’s activities! Please stop by; as the end of the year approaches, there are fewer opportunities to meet and greet the wonderful staff of Fulmore. We’d love to see you!
PTA Executive Board will be meeting Monday, April 11 at 7:45 in the library. We are trying to draw up a full slate of officers for next year, as we are losing our VP of Membership and our 2-year Treasurer must step into a different role. We also need to replace our VP of Fundraising. Our Treasurer is a critical need! Please consider stepping into this role. If you are interested or have questions, please contact Diane Parker at dianeparker241@gmail.com.
PTA’s Staff Appreciation luncheons and Breakfasts have been very well-received this year. Thanks to all our members who have stepped up! The Staff Appreciation breakfasts have been a new achievement, one which we are very proud of and which would not be possible without your donations of food, supplies and funding. We intend to build on this success and continue this effort next year. We are interested in creating a committee to divide out some of the few duties—picking up the coffee, picking up bread/pastry donations at Panera, setting up and cleaning up etc. We will likely host nine of these next year and will establish a schedule over the summer designating the dates ahead of time. If you are looking for a way to have a defined, time-limited way to be present at Fulmore, please consider this opportunity. The staff appreciation luncheons are fewer but require more set-up, serving and clean-up assistance.
Another first—PTA has provided a significant re-supply to Fulmore staff of a variety of school supplies, all of which will be used to help enrich our students’ educational experience. Your donations keep giving! Thanks to all for your support.
