SAVE THE DATE!
HSI is going to be offering a FREE Parent Academy beginning 2nd semester.
Please take a few minutes to complete this survey by Friday, December 6th and let us know what type of workshops you would be interested in attending. This will allow us to better plan based on our parents' interests and needs.
OPEN ENROLLMENT HAS BEGUN!
A Note from the Medical Assistant:
Attendance is so important as time in the classroom cannot be made up! In an effort to keep strong academics please send all siblings in good health to school. Here are a few tips to keep our kids happy and healthy as the flu season is here !
HSI SCIENCE FAIR!
If you received a packet of information about the Science Fair before the break, then your student has shown interest in participating. Please make sure to turn in the project proposal and parental permission sheet by Tuesday, December 3rd.
*Permission slips turned in after the due date will not be considered for the science fair.
PreK-5th grade will be performing Winter themed songs and there will be food for sale as well as PTO selling Hot Cocoa.
We hope to see you there!
For more information you may contact Mrs. Chu at email@example.com.
Be sure to get your order of HSI-Austin PTO calendars that feature HSI student artwork!
All funds raised from the calendar sales will be used towards helping the PTO continue to support programs and activities at HSI!
Calendars will be delivered to your child's classroom the final week of school before Winter Break!
(checks payable to HSI-Austin PTO)

Math is Everywhere!
Math in Action!
The best part about math is that it’s everywhere you look and we use it everyday! With that in mind it’s a cinch to help your students practice wherever you are! If you are stuck in traffic take that time to quiz your kiddos on their multiplication facts, 3rd-5th.
When you’re at the grocery store have them show off their rounding skills by asking them what dollar amount the items you need are closest too! For example if a carton of eggs says it’s $1.62, is it closer to $2 or $1? A sweet treat is a great motivation tool and learning manipulative! Lay some out and encourage your student to eat some and then ask questions such as, “Do you have more or less than before you ate some?” Small snacks also work great as counters! “How many blueberries do you have on your plate?” “If I take two away how many do you have left?”
Let’s not leave math in the classroom, let’s make sure we see math in action everywhere!
Parents, please help us with the initiative by reminding your scholar to have his or her shirt tucked in each morning!
You may contact Ms. Gomez at firstname.lastname@example.org should you have any questions. Thank you!
