Switches
As the new school year starts tomorrow I wanted to inform everyone that I no longer will be teaching math or reading. Starting Wednesday we will be switching like the students were used to last year. I will be teaching writing to all of the 5th graders and social studies to my homeroom only.
This is to help the students get acquainted with the switches and responsibilities ahead of them in middle school.
Math will be taught by Ms. Althauser, her e-mail is meghan.althauser@franklin.kyschools.us
Reading will be taught by Mrs. Coleman, her e-mail is kelli.coleman@franklin.kyschools.us
If you have any questions regarding writing, social studies, the new schedule or switches feel free to contact me at anytime. If you have any questions about math or reading the other teachers would love to talk to you as well.
I hope everyone had a great holiday break! I missed everyone!
-Love, Ms. Lee

What We are Currently Learning
Writing
Writing
This week we are focusing on idea develtopment and prewriting. It is important for students to have a good plan before they start to write out their thoughts. In the weeks to come we also will be working on having strong focused paragraphs with interesting and catching introductions and conclusions. I am also checking for capitalization at the beginning of their sentences and punctuation at the end.
A new skill we are practicing has to do with out introductions to our papers. We are working on having a strong catching lead and introduction to grab our readers attention.
Some standards we are practicing are:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.5.1.A
Introduce a topic or text clearly, state an opinion, and create an organizational structure in which ideas are logically grouped to support the writer's purpose.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.5.1.B
Provide logically ordered reasons that are supported by facts and details.
