McKinney Youth Leadership Program
ATTENTION SOPHOMORES: The McKinney Youth Leadership Program, which is sponsored by the McKinney Rotary Club, is taking applications for the upcoming year. The program is designed exclusively for Sophomores, 2019. The application can be found by going to www.mckinneyrotary.org. In the center of the homepage look for “Important Files”. Upon clicking on that, you’ll see McKinney Youth Leadership. The application should be printed, completed and mailed to McKinney Rotary Club, P.O. Box 552, McKinney, Texas 75070. The deadline for submitting application is June 14, 2019. The students will be notified June 28, 2019, regarding the selection process. In August there is a mandatory orientation and retreat. The monthly sessions are from 6-8 p.m. at various locations and 2 absences are allowed if needed, for graduation. Topics include - teambuilding, leadership skills, cars and credit, various tours, and etiquette classes. Additionally, the class will participate in the annual Make A Difference Day. Graduation is in April, 2020. Other students from your school have participated and found it to be a valuable experience. If you’d like to speak to them, I will try to make that possible.
Information regarding the May 4 SAT Testing Session
A power outage at McKinney Boyd High School on Saturday, May 4, 2019, during the administration of the SAT test led to the College Board’s decision to end the test session and release the test takers before the end of the scheduled testing period. Understandably, parents of those test takers and the test takers themselves have had questions regarding this situation.
Because the administration of the SAT is controlled by the College Board, the decision regarding next steps will come from the College Board. Our contacts at the College Board have been working on a solution for making up the test, and they will contact test takers directly with information regarding the next steps that need to be taken.
Important Information for 2010-2020 School Year
MISD will be hosting two evenings where parents can register their RETURNING students for the 2019-20 school year. Computers and registrars will be available to assist with this process. Please bring with you a current Proof of Residence and your “snap code” that you will receive via email the week of July 8.
** These evenings are ONLY for students who completed the 2018-19 school year at MISD. Any students new to McKinney ISD should consult the website for New Student registration dates.https://www.mckinneyisd.net/enrollment/2019-20-new-student-enrollment/

These evening events will be held at Faubion Middle School, 2000 Rollins Street McKinney, TX 75069.
In McKinney ISD it is very important that we work to make sure that students are attending school in the appropriate attendance zone, understanding that it can be confusing. In order to accomplish this, we are requiring you provide proof of residence annually to your student's school upon enrollment. Acceptable proof of residence is one of the following:
- A copy of a current or previous month utility bill (electric, gas, water) which shows the current usage on it.
- A current lease (for 30 days until a utility bill is available). The lease must have the move in date clearly stated.
- If you are under contract to purchase a home, a copy of the signed dated contract with the closing date is clearly stated. If the closing date is after September 1 of the current school year, monthly tuition payments shall be made until the closing date per MISD Board Policy.
- If you have recently purchased your home, a copy of the closing papers will suffice until a utility bill is available (within 30 days).
- If you are living with a relative or friend within the MISD attendance boundaries, an affidavit must be completed and notarized at the school as well as submitting a current utility bill.
This is very important, so please make every effort to provide the documentation. Students who are unable to produce documentation to verify residency by August 30, 2019, may not be able to attend a McKinney ISD school and will be subject to withdrawal.
Project Graduation Needs Your Support
I’m sure you’ve heard about the great life-saving event: McKinney’s Project Graduation. It’s an amazing event that is a FREE, all night, lock-in style, drug and alcohol free event for graduating seniors of all three McKinney ISD high schools on May 31 from 10:30pm to 5:30am at Myers Park Event Center. There will be lots of free food and drinks, black jack and Texas Hold ‘em, bingo, karaoke, photo booth, inflatables and tons of prizes to give away to keep the 2019 seniors engaged and having fun all night long. Project Graduation plans to have $25, $50, & $100 cash raffles every 15 minutes, 2 $500 raffles and the grand prize is a car donated by Eldorado Chevrolet that will be raffled at the end of the night.
They need volunteers to make the night successful for the Class of 2019.
Freshman, Sophomore, Junior parents PAY IT FORWARD to the Class of 2019 and volunteer this year so others will do the same for you when you have a senior. It takes more than 250 volunteers to make it a successful event.
Senior parents come volunteer and even bring your family, college-aged students and friends with you to help.

If you volunteer that night in a senior’s name, that senior will be eligible for a $500 cash drawing (one drawing for each high school). An entry for every volunteer in that senior’s name.

Allen Event Center Bag Policy for Graduation
Only bags/purses 8.5” x 6.5” x 4.5” (the size of a small clutch) or smaller are allowed inside Allen Event Center. Fanny pack style belted bags and backpacks must meet size criteria. Baby bags are allowed, but must be no larger than 14”x14”x6”. All bags are subject to search prior to entry. No wrapped gifts or gift bags will be allowed inside the venue. All guests will be required to walk through metal detectors, in accordance with the Allen Event Center’s safety policy. We appreciate your cooperation.
