Claires Court Bulletin
FROM THE HEAD'S DESK
It has been an unbelievably busy seven days! I joined my U11 rugby boys in Cambridge for their tour and we enjoyed four active days sampling the sites of the city and clashing with the best schools and clubs around. Twenty six boys represented the school superbly, and they also found a great deal of success on the field of play, winning four matches, drawing one and losing one. Our Year 6 Bushcrafters were also hard at work lighting fires, tracking animals and building shelters - we have some budding ‘Bear Grylls’ in the making!
We are extremely proud of our U10A rugby team. They travelled to Oratory Prep School on Wednesday and took part in a large rugby tournament - they were unbeaten and ended up as Joint Winners. In the final against Moulsford, there was nothing between the teams at the end of normal time and extra time, hence the sharing of the trophy. The boys showed tremendous courage and deserve a great deal of praise. Equally impressive were our U9 boys who played in the St Columba’s tournament earlier this week. They showed resilience and bravery in defence and scored some wonderful tries- they won one, drew one and lost two matches. This is still their first season of competitive rugby and I am delighted with their attitude and determination - this can be said for all of Year 4 on the rugby field. Also very well done to Archie Arnold and Johannes Dreischmeier in Year 6 who have been selected to represent the South East of England in the rugby prep school Barbarians team - we are very proud of their achievements.
This week saw the first full meeting of the class reps as part of our ‘Pupil Voice’, and Mrs Stay has been really encouraged at how the whole school have approached this new initiative. Year 5 were taken back to ‘old school’ on Tuesday at the Victorian School Museum - a brilliant experience, but no chromebooks or interactive whiteboards available back then I am afraid boys!
Claires Court Junior Boys paid their respects to the memory of the fallen heroes of past wars at 11 o’clock on Tuesday. Boys and staff met for a special assembly first thing in the morning before returning to their classrooms to observe a period of silence. I stood with the boys and teachers in Reception, and our four year olds were impeccably behaved in their show of respect, reminding me of how quickly our little ones are maturing and understanding the world around them.
I wish you all a relaxing and enjoyable weekend.
Could we ask that if it is necessary to bring medicine into school for your son that it is in an appropriate container that is clearly labelled with content and pupil’s name/ dosage etc and it MUST be accompanied by a prescribed medication form with all details clearly written. If we are not happy that this has not been complied with we reserve the right to refuse to give the medication. Medicine may not be given to the boys to take home on the bus so alternative arrangements will need to be made to take this into account. If you require further clarification on these rulings please contact Angela Fowke (School Nurse) at Claires Court, The College on 01628 687402.
Please note that the following activities are cancelled on Monday:- Y4 Football skills (8am), Art Club, Social Club and Hockey. Tuesday’s Y2 Football (8am) is also cancelled.

Over the past few weeks the boys have been practising and competing in a class tournament developing their skills in the fun game of Quoridor. Congratulations go to Edward Verstringhe who won all of his games and who was therefore selected to join the CCJB Mindlab Olympic Team when they compete against other schools next May. He was closely followed by William Paveley winning Silver and Alistair Jesseman Bronze. Well done to all the boys who took part.
