Capturing Kids Hearts - CKH

You may have heard the saying, “Put yourself in someone else’s shoes.” This quote is all about empathy. What is empathy?

  • Empathy is being able to know how someone else is feeling, even when you are not in the same situation.

  • Empathy is a key ingredient in having positive friendships and relationships because it helps us understand and relate to others.

  • It helps us to know how our actions affect others.

  • It teaches us what actions we need to take to be a good friend or teammate.

  • It helps us understand more about the people and the world around us.

This month, students will be learning about empathy. They will be learning what empathy means, ways to show empathy, and why it is important. Each week, students will have a special mission, or challenge to help focus on the word of the month. Last week’s mission was to find someone new to play with at recess. This week's mission is to smile and say hi to three classmates or staff during the school day.

Conflict Managers – Ready for Action!

We are happy to have the Conflict Manager program back at Washington Street Elementary School. Conflict Managers are fourth- and fifth-grade students who serve their school by helping other students resolve conflicts and assisting students in many other ways during lunch and recess. Each fall and winter new students are chosen to become Conflict Managers. They are chosen by their classmates and their teachers. The Conflict Managers are trained and scheduled for duty by the school counselor. Conflict Managers help students express their feelings, come up with ideas to solve problems, and find their own best solutions. The Conflict Manager team is an excellent asset to our school.

We would like to congratulate and thank the following students who will be Conflict Managers for the first half of the school year at Washington Street Elementary:

Lily Burchfield, Isaiah Bushee, Hadley Kowalski, Cooper Richardson, Nova Gerow, Elijah Moulder, Aven Smith, Ava Wolthuis, Nolan Knight, Reid Richie, Addison Currie, Aleiya Stolt, Ben Arnsman, Trammell Bumgart, Kennadi Milhiem, Kaylee Spitzner, Payton Gleason, Weston Holmes, Keegan Hough, Presley Summers, Kamryn Comperchio, Leah Harrington, Noah Lash, Landon Wright.
