In Topsy Turvy this month, we talked about Hope. The lesson focused on students believing that they can achieve their dreams. What hopes and dreams do your kiddos have for their future?
February Library Programming - Love Your Library
February is the month of love, so it's a great time to show how much you love your library! Students were asked to visit and check out five titles from the library during the month. When they turned the book back into the library, they were to leave a completed bookmark in the book telling why they "loved" the book. The next student that checks out the book will then get a surprise note from one of their peers. Students who completed the task got their picture on the Wall of Fame outside of the library main doors.
Student pictures can be viewed on the Roby Library Twitter (http://www.twitter.com) @robyeslibrary. You can also find pictures of students on the Roby Library webpage found at http://robyeslibrary.weebly.com. (Click on my name above and you will be linked to the webpage directly).
Scheduled Classes
Kindergarten classes spent time learning about and listening to titles nominated for this year's Kentucky Bluegrass Award plus two of the award-winning Caldecott titles for 2015. This year's winner was The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend by Dan Santant. There were 6 Honor Books (runners-up) including Nana in the City by Lauren Castillo, which we also read in library class. For a list of other winners, visit the American Library Association.
Grades 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 are seen on a weekly basis for book exchange.
During the Month of February we were very busy! Students participated in a jump rope unit. Jump Rope for Heart was held on February 25th and was a great success! Thank you to all the students and families that helped raise money for the American Heart Association. Our total donation has not been calculated yet, but we will publish the amount in the next newsletter! We will need to order more ducks and thank you prizes, so please be patient as we wait for those to come in! During the month of March we will be working on Basketball skills.
Please remember to check the lost and found! Several students have left/lost things in PE class!
It is very important that all students wear tennis shoes to school every day! If your child in unable to participate in P.E. for a particular reason, please be sure to send a note with them! P.E. grades are based on participation and behavior in class. There will also be written assignments that the students will be graded on throughout the year. Students are not graded on their “athletic ability” but they are graded on their willingness to try all activities!
