Project Background:
March: 8th grade students in Individuals and Societies class learned about how America expanded from a small country with an agriculture based economy to a massive world leader with an industrial based economy. With this growth and expansion America attracted millions of immigrants all looking for a chance for a better life. Unfortunately, not all growth and expansion was equal and some of those changes caused inequality throughout the nation.
April: Students chose an area of national growth and and inequality to research individually. That research came with a challenge, they had to create a solution to end the inequality. Students researched the reform that was attempted both in the past and now. Those attempts at reform have inspired them create social movements to end the long lasting inequalities that exist today.
Please join in #GIMSMOVEMENT to positively contribute to our world by ending inequality.

Technovation
Technovation is an Indiana Department of Education Summer of eLearning one-day conference on July 31st at Penn High School. Technovation focuses on the intentional placement of technology to support student achievement. As our summer calendars are already beginning to fill up, I wanted to let you know that Goshen Community Schools will be partnering with Penn-Harris-Madison Schools for the fourth annual Technovation conference this year. The registration fee for Technovation is just $20. You may also earn seven (7) PGPs for attending. With all of the great work going on in our classrooms, Goshen teachers have a lot to offer as presenters at this conference.
The strength of Technovation is built on quality sessions offered by great teachers. If you have a topic that you would like to present at the conference, please click on the link below and propose a session. We are looking for sessions that span K-12 initiatives in an effort to make this conference relevant to all learners. The breakout sessions will last for approximately 50 minutes. Presenters from Goshen Schools will receive 14 PGPs. Presenters will be compensated $50 for their time and receive free admission.
Technovation will continue to be centered around innovative practices and the intentional placement of technology in the classroom. Technovation 2018 features a keynote address from Denis Sheeran (author of Instant Relevance and Director of Student Achievement in Weehawken School District) as well as breakout sessions. Lunch will be provided and there will be opportunities for door prizes! Follow the links below to learn more about Technovation and to register.

Office of Educator Effectiveness
NEW! IDOE Teacher Survey: Your Voice Matters
The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) is eager to hear from teachers across the state. We know how hard our teachers are working, and ensuring that we can support development and retention is vitally important to us. The Office of Educator Effectiveness has been working to develop a survey that we will be inviting all current K-12 classroom teachers across the State of Indiana to participate in soon. This will be a short online survey. This survey will give the IDOE, districts, and schools comprehensive feedback about how teachers perceive their profession. Please look for more information about our survey project, “IDOE Teacher Survey: Your Voice Matters,” coming soon.
6th graders celebrating their GOLD from ISSMA. We are so proud of you!
From our Central Office:
1. Referendum Events – Saturday morning several volunteers worked to organize the yard signs and to deliver those that have requested them or given us the OK to deliver them. WE NEED EVERYONE’s HELP! There are only about sixteen days until election day. What we are learning is that the average member of the voting public does not know about the referendum, and so your help is needed to get the word out!
Here is a list of upcoming events. Even if you do not live in Goshen, your contribution and participation is important to this effort, AND we all benefit!
For the following events, meet at L & M Electric on US 33 North (out near EBY Ford):
· Walk and Talk – Mondays and Thursdays of each week 5 – 8 p.m. & Saturdays 9 a.m. – 12:00 noon. There will be instructions provided when you arrive, but basically, there are two jobs: One person is a “Talker”……and the other is a “Thumber” (recording the data in the app.) Young adults make great “thumbers”! Saturdays are the most fruitful/beneficial.
· Yard Sign Rally – Saturday the 21st at 9:00 a.m. Watch for more information, because we will likely have another rally.
See other locations included in the details of events below
· Hacienda Night is scheduled for Tuesday, April 24th in the Linway Plaza. Starts at 6:00 p.m. More information will be coming.
· Our next Post Card Party is April 25th at 4:00 pm. At GHS Cafeteria. This is SUPER EASY! Everything is provided for you along with PIZZA!!!!
Please plan to attend!
