Red-Cockaded Wodpecker
The scientific name for the red-cockaded woodpecker is the Picoides borealis. It is found all over North Carolina. They make their home in long leaf pine trees. They are endangered because of tree farming that destroyed their habitat. Red-Cockaded Woodpecker are territorial birds, which means they don't migrate. This made it harder for them to find new places to make their home. They are being protected by the government, when they stop deforestation and national forest.
