Ecosystems and Biomes

Energy Flow and Food Chains

Warmup

Get your spirals and draw a circle map defining the word Ecosystem. Use as many words or phrases that you can that explain what an ecosystem is. This will be checked and graded.

Assignment 1

When class starts, you should get a packet titled "Chapter 17: Ecosystems and Biomes". You will use one of the blue Science Explorer books to answer the questions in the packet. You may have to share a book with ONE partner. If there are extra books and you wish to work alone, that is fine. Talking should be kept to a WHISPER. There should be NO IPADS at this time.

Assignment 2

When you have finished with the packet, you will read the packet that has been assigned to you silently. There are 2 sets of groups: the expert groups and the cooperative groups. Work alone until everyone is finished with their packets. The expert groups are listed below. You will only read the packet that you are assigned to.

Cooperative groups will pair with the same numbers. If and when you move to cooperative groups, each expert should explain their field to the others and create a Tree Map classifying the characteristics of each. You will do a project on Friday that goes with this.
