But it's just a little piece of paper....
Parent Communication
We know that building relationships with our students' families is essential to student success.
Check out Ms. Walton's weekly newsletter that she does using a Google Doc. Easy, paper free, and fast. She included the writing rubric this week so parents can think about their students' writing at home.

Ms. Yari uses this free app:
This app. communicates with all of her families via text and translates in to up to 20 languages. We know that some of our parents don't have email, but all of them have cell phones. This is another easy, paper free way to communicate with parents.
Talking to Kids About Race
Tuesday, October 3rd, 6-9pm
Crocker Highlands School, in the Multi-Purpose Room
How do we have a conversation about race with our children? In the wake of violence, uprisings and protests that are making bias and its impacts more visible, this presentation will help us unpack our own understanding of race and outline developmentally supportive language to use with kids.
The Glenview Equity Team would like to invite Glenview parents, teachers and caregivers to attend this free workshop hosted by Crocker Highlands Elementary School.

Faculty Council Concern: Lunch Line
Suggestions: Bring back the lunch cards and/or have playtime end earlier.
Next Steps:
Chelsea met with our food service employee, Ms. Raponza and her supervisor and came up with the following plan.
1) Food services will provide cards for students.
2) We are going to keep the cards in the cafeteria in sentence strip charts so they won't get lost during playtime or in the classrooms (see photo below)
3) Teacher can have one student be the card passer outer or students can get their own cards out of the chart as they enter the cafeteria. Cafeteria supervisors can also assist with this.
4) Ms. Raponza will take the cards from each child and then she will scan them in afterwards.
I will let you know when the cards arrive from Food Services, in the meantime, you can show your students the new Lunch card bulletin board in the cafeteria.
Wednesday, October 4: Walk & Roll to School
Pump up your tires, adjust your helmet, grab your skateboard,
lace up your kicks and get ready for Walk & Roll to School!

PICTURE DAY SCHEDULE- THIS WEEK
Final Picture Day Schedule. Please note your time/date and communicate with your families in newsletters, etc.
Shelter in Place Drill- This Week!
You will hear over the loud speaker that we are having a Shelter in Place Drill.
At that point, you simply need to stay in the classroom and continue teaching. Support staff will clear the yard and lock the facility.
I will then call an all clear. We will not evacuate.
Please use this time to teach your students about what a "shelter in place" means? Why would we have one? Has anyone had one before at their home? Why is it important to practice for emergencies?
Earthquake Drill- Great California ShakeOut, 10/19
Please review the procedure with your students in advance.
