Principal's Message

This week as I visited classrooms I was able to see lots of great teaching and learning in our classrooms. LOs/DOLs, Essential questions, and an emphasis on vocabulary was evident. Although most classrooms have all of the essential best practices in place. One best practice that could use some attention is the implementation of a do now as soon as students walk in the door. A Do Now should be ready for students as they walk in the door before the tardy bell rings. The nice thing about having a do now activity is that while students are completing the assignment, you can also be taking care of administrative tasks like taking attendance or passing out graded papers. A "Do Now" is not only a good practice, it sends the message to your students that bell to bell instruction is of utmost importance in your classroom. This practice is especially important in our campus since you only see your students every other day. Every minute counts and every minute should be planned with your students' needs in mind. I leave you with a couple of questions regarding your "DO Now" activity for you to reflect on. What data are you using to plan your "DO Now?" Is the activity posted for students self explanatory? Do you have a routine in place to check the "DO Now" assignment quickly?

Let's make it another great week of teaching and learning.
