MESSAGE FROM DR. CHURCH

Dear Totem Falls Families,

I wanted to give a brief update on the status of our district in regards to the removal of the mask mandate as directed by our governor. Beginning Monday, the wearing of masks on campus will no longer be mandatory. This marks an important milestone in a return to an even more normal school experience for us all. That being said, school districts will still be following the guidance of their local county health districts when it comes to all other Covid-sensitive protocols. Our school district will be communicating to the community what those changes will entail once they receive that information.

Additionally, we know that some students and staff may still feel most comfortable to continue to wear masks and so masks will remain an optional choice for everyone. If you would like your child to continue to wear a mask, please let your child's teacher know so that we can support them. All students will be coached on the nuances of how to respond to friends who choose to continue to wear a mask (i.e., teasing or causing any kind of grief if anyone chooses to continue to be masked up won't be tolerated). And because of that, as this school's leader, I will keep my mask handy as well and I, myself, will mask up if I am in the presence of any student or staff member who is wearing theirs--for me personally, this is a show of support to those individuals.

Sincerely,

Craig

*UPDATE* TO NEW SCHOOL NAME AND MASCOT

I want to provide an update related to the process for considering a new name and mascot for the school. I spoke with Dr. Kultgen this week and he shared a pending meeting with the Tulalip Tribal Council. He and I had talked about the symbolism related to “Totem” especially which led to moving forward with processing next steps. After speaking with a tribal leader, Dr. Kultgen was encouraged to process a name and mascot change with the council. This doesn’t mean we won’t change the name, but will provide more understanding regardless of the outcome. I will keep you apprised as to the outcome of our meeting.
