Attention Rising 8th Graders

Access to technology is vital in our future. Bay Haven Middle School and North Bay Haven Middle School use technology in a wide range of settings at school. The goal has been to increase the opportunities for using technology as we focus on a learning environment to move all students into the 21st century classroom.

As a result, next year both Bay Haven and North Bay Haven will have all 8th grade students bring a Chromebook to class starting in the fall of 2018. The Chromebooks must be the brand and model approved by the school (see below), but can be purchased wherever you choose. Students and families with financial hardship or special needs should visit our website - search the “For Parents” link, and then the page titled “Chromebooks.” Here you will find the “Financial Hardship Application.”

We have placed some clear guidelines around the use of Chromebooks at school:

  1. Students will be able to use their Chromebook only at the invitation of their teacher. A student does not have the “right” to use their device and is not permitted to use it if it is not part of the teacher’s instruction.
  2. Students are fully responsible for the care and upkeep of their own device.
  3. Devices can only be used in the classroom for work as directed by the teacher. If a device is misused in any way, a teacher has the right to confiscate the device.
  4. All devices will be registered with the school network during the first week of school. Students will only use the school network.

A Chromebook Acceptable use policy with be sent to use soon. Both the student and the parent must read and sign the policy.

We require the Dell Chromebook 11 3189 Touchscreen. This model is available in 3 hard drive sizes, 16, 32 or 64 GB. We have tested the 16GB base model and it is sufficient for the Student's needs; however, all three options are acceptable. We highly recommend an Accidental Damage policy for these as well as we do not repair Chromebooks at the school. There are many websites to purchase these devices and all offer different protection plans with them.

On the bayhaven.org website, under the “For Parents” link, a page titled “Chromebooks” will display links to several vendors offering the approved model. If you intend to purchase the Chromebook from another vendor/website, please ensure that the website you visit is displaying the correct Dell Chromebook model. If in doubt, send an email to the North Bay Haven IT Department bhca.helpdesk@bayhaven.org with a link to the specific site/web page you are viewing, and a staff member will gladly verify it for you. We will periodically search for sites with discount pricing and will do our best to keep this page up to date with offerings.

HAVEN FAMILY FOUNDATION GOLF TOURNAMENT

The Haven Family Foundation is hosting its annual golf tournament on Saturday, April 14th at Holiday Golf Club, 8:30 shotgun start, four person scramble format. This year's tournament promises to be better than any before. All proceeds go to the Foundation to help with improvements at both campuses and to benefit students at all five Haven Family schools. There are plenty of opportunities to participate in the tournament, either as a player, sponsor or contributor. If you like to play golf (or at least be out in the fresh air and occasionally whack a golf ball), get your foursome together and sign up your team today. There will be lots of goodies at the tournament for all players. If golf is not your game or you cannot make it on the 14th, be a sponsor and get publicity for your company. The Corporate/Family Sponsorship offers the opportunity not only for publicity on the day of the tournament, but at both campuses thereafter! If you are not inclined to do either, we will gladly accept any donations of goods, gift certificates or other promotional items to be used as prizes or giveaways. Attached is a sign up flier for the tournament with all pertinent information. Sign up by April 7th. To sign up, if you have questions or your would like to help with the tournament, call Bill Henry at 850-774-0887 or Steve Crow at 850-258-5368, or email bhcafoundationgolf@gmail.com.
