HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELING BULLETIN
Sept/Oct 2020
A NOTE FROM THE COUNSELING DEPARTMENT
A goal for the Mt. Lebanon High School Counseling Department is to increase communication between school counselors, students and parents/guardians. We have always communicated information through the Counseling Bulletin.
This Bulletin contains information for students so that they may be aware of meetings, programs, scholarships, deadlines for tests and current college and vocational information. The Bulletins are distributed to homerooms, posted on our website and emailed to families.
Be sure you have updated your email addresses in Dashboard so that you will continue to receive this valuable information in a timely fashion. Information and/or deadlines that we receive in between Bulletin publications will be posted on the Counseling News web page. You can sign up to receive alerts here. To sign up for alerts, click the yellow bell icon on the right side and enter information for where you'd like to receive the alerts.

Connect with College Reps - Virtually!
Beginning the week of September 14th and running through November 20th representatives from over 100 colleges and universities will visit our 10th -12th grade students virtually using Zoom or Google Meet.
Since these meetings are held throughout the school day, students should be selective in choosing which visits to attend. Students interested in a career with the military should contact their counselor.
The most current list of virtual college meetings will be found in Naviance under the Colleges menu. To see the current list of colleges scheduled to visit, scroll down until you see College Visits, then click Show More. Click the Register button next to a college name if you plan to attend that meeting. Students who add "colleges that you are applying to" and/or "colleges of interest" to their college list, will receive an email when that college has scheduled a visit with us. College visit information may also be available on the morning announcements & posted on Dashboard under Student Announcements.
As a reminder, below are the expectations for students attending this meetings:
COLLEGE MEETING STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
Students must register in Naviance prior to attending a college meeting.*
Students must secure the approval of the teacher whose class will be missed prior to the meeting.
Prior to the meeting, students should read about the college online or in Naviance to gather facts and information about the school.
Students should have some questions in mind to ask the representative.
It is the student’s responsibility to make up any class work missed as a result of attending college meetings.
College meetings are to be taken seriously and are an excellent opportunity to determine if the college may be a good fit for you!
* In the rare instance that you forget to register but have a true interest in a specific college, you may still attend the meeting. Permission from your teacher prior to attending the meeting is still required.

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
Every year many scholarship opportunities are available to our high school students. The majority of scholarships are for seniors but a few are open to lower grades. Mt. Lebanon High School is fortunate to have many local and regional organizations, as well as community members sponsor scholarships for our students.
Naviance will be updated as these opportunities become available. Students can access scholarship information by logging in to Naviance, via Clever (link is below and also on the School Counseling website). Once in Naviance, select the Colleges Tab at the top. Go to Scholarships and Money, then Scholarship List. Currently, there are several scholarships available with upcoming deadlines and we will update the list continuously throughout the year.
The 2020 Scholarship Directory below is a summary list of the scholarships that have been offered to our students the past few years. You may search this document to identify scholarships that you might be eligible for, then keep your eye out for them to become active in Naviance between now and January.
Pay close attention to scholarship application requirements. Transcripts, letters of recommendation and/or an essay may be required. Don’t miss out on being considered due to overlooking the required documents.
As always, if you have any questions, please contact your school counselor or Mr. Jerad Smith for assistance
Use Naviance for college transcripts!!
