Here's What's on Top at Buena Vista - March 1, 2023
Note from the Principal
Greetings Buena Vista Parents,
Thank you to all of all of the families who came and supported Buena Vista Multi Cultural Night last Wednesday. What an amazing turnout! The food and entertainment were great! I loved seeing all of the cultural clothing that you were dressed in as well. Thank you to our parent members on PTA and our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Committee who helped organize and plan this special evening. You all did a wonderful job! I personally had a great time visiting with our BV families and trying new foods and drinks I had not had the opportunity to try before, thank you all for sharing a big piece of who you are with us. Here is what is coming up for Buena Vista this month!
Read Across America
Nationally March 2nd is recognized as National Read Across America Day. This day started as a celebration of famous author Dr. Seuss and recognizes his birthday (which falls on March 2nd). This started out as a special day of celebration, in 1998, to promote literacy and a love for reading, but now the whole month is recognized by the National Education Association.
Teachers will be celebrating the beloved author tomorrow, but our whole school will be recognizing the importance to grow the love of reading in each one of us with special activities and events all month. Next week, during library time, we will have special readers from our community coming through to read and share their favorite books with our students. In addition, Mrs. Iyengar , our wonderful library and media specialist, has selected some new additions to our library that bring wonderful new titles and add more diverse voices to our library collection. Students will get to get a taste of these new titles next week. This week, students have been creating book recommendations that are posted in our Mutlipurpose Room, if you swing by for breakfast or after school, I encourage you to take a look. Next week will will also celebrate our love of reading with spirit days (Daily dress days below!)
At the end of the month we will be having our Scholastic Book Fair (March 27-31). This year our PTA is sponsoring students, so each student in our school will have the opportunity to select a book that they would like to purchase with "book bucks" from the book fair AND they will get a school pencil as well. During book fair week, we will have our Lunch in the Breezeway and bring a "Grand Person to Lunch" event. A schedule will follow next week, but students will be able to invite a special adult (Grandparent, parent, uncle, aunt, etc) to come on their grade's assigned day and eat lunch with them. If they'd like they can visit the Book Fair when they are done eating. Students and parents were very excited about this last year and I am glad we can do it again.
A big THANK YOU to PTA for their very generous donation to buy each student a Buena Vista their own self selected book! This is amazing!!!!
Black History Month Celebrations at BV
Our 4th graders did an amazing job putting on our Black History Hero Wax Museum on display for us on Monday. It was amazing to see Misty Copeland, Stevie Wonder, Phillis Wheatley, Maya Angelou, Josephine Baker, Earl Floyd, Barack Obama and so many more "come to life" and share important information about their lives and contributions. What a great event! Thank you to Mrs. Gould, Ms. Campbell, and Mrs. Pacific. What fun learning for both our 4th graders and the rest of the students who were able to come through and listen to presentations.
It's a Great Day to be a Bulldog!
Respectfully,

Read Across America Day is March 2
As we celebrate Read Across America Day tomorrow, WCEF is proud to support literacy by providing funding for a credentialed librarian. Above and beyond promoting a lifelong love of reading, our WCSD credentialed librarian is responsible for curating a diverse collection of books, digital resources, and educational materials that align with the curriculum and support the learning goals of each student. WCEF’s mission is to ensure that ALL students have access to high quality educational resources, and a librarian is an essential part of achieving that goal!
