The Destiny Discover App lets you quickly search for all LHS library content. Open, read, check out, download, and return eBooks – all from the convenience of your iOS or Android device. You can also see all the library materials you have checked out, along with the due dates.


  1. Use the Location drop-down to select your state or province.
  2. In the School Name field, type the first few letters of your school’s name. When your school shows in the suggestions, select it.

Lexington School District One (LSDO) 2021 Summer Reading for High School Students

Summer reading offers students an opportunity to enjoy quality literature while growing their independent reading skills. By offering choice, we hope students will find ‘books they won’t be able to put down' so they can authentically engage in summer reading and ultimately ‘fall in love' with reading so they are better prepared to engage in academic reading.


This summer, every LSDO high school student should self-select and read at least one book. As a starting point, students might consider choosing one of the 2021-2022 South Carolina Young Adult Book Award (YABA) nominees, however, choosing from this list is not required.


**Notice for Parents/Guardians: Young Adult titles often cover mature subject matter and may include strong language. Parents/guardians should review the chosen title to determine if the book seems appropriate for their student reader.

When students return to school in August, teachers will use students’ summer reading experiences to begin building a community of readers who share and talk about books. Students will also be invited to participate in a schoolwide reading celebration in the LHS library.

AP/Dual Enrollment Summer 2021 Pre-Reading Assignments

If you signed up to take an AP/Dual Enrollment English class during the 2021-2022 school year, check the list below for your course to be sure you get a head start on the reading needed for your specific class. Happy reading!


English AP Literature

In this course, students will develop the ability to interpret and discuss a literary work critically and insightfully by considering a work's structure, style, and theme, as well as its use of figurative language, imagery, symbolism, and tone. To prepare for the course, students need to READ and ANNOTATE the following book: How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster. During the semester, we will apply the observations Foster makes in his book regarding how to read a work of literature to every selection we read in the course, so it is very important that you read and annotate this text carefully and thoughtfully. Annotations should include highlighting and/or underlining AS WELL AS marginal notes.


English AP Language and Composition

Is everything an argument? This course focuses on rhetorical analysis rather than literary analysis. We examine HOW a text means, not just WHAT a text means. We examine the stylistic choices writers and speakers make in order to argue. In preparation for our semester together, please complete the following. READ and ANNOTATE Thank You for Arguing by Jay Heinrichs. Annotations should include highlighting and/or underlining AS WELL AS marginal notes.


Dual Enrollment: English 101/102
