WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR GRASP ALUM DANIEL BUTH
What are you currently doing? I am currently in my first year at the VCU School of Pharmacy. For the past four years, I have worked in a local independent pharmacy in preparation for pharmacy school and am excited to branch out to explore and pursue other areas in pharmacy. My undergraduate degree major was in biology with a chemistry minor.
What is the best thing GRASP has done for you? GRASP has helped me to alleviate the stresses of paying for college by offering scholarships, grants, and other financial services.
What was the biggest hardship /challenge you faced in your path to college? My biggest challenge in my path to college was and is finding ways to lower tuition.
What one piece of "educational advice" would you give to high school students? A piece of educational advice that I can offer is to plan ahead. I was able to plan out and organize all of my classes freshman year in a manner that dispersed workload evenly. Also prepare for things that you would not expect to EVER happen.
WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE
GRASP recently expanded its staff as it enters a new era in its lifecycle. Ken Barker is now the President and Chief Executive Officer, focusing on growth and development, and Bettsy Heggie is the Chief Operating Officer, focusing on operations. This leadership expansion will better enable GRASP to continue its goal of ensuring that every student has an equal opportunity for continuing education after high school, regardless of financial or social circumstances.
Ken is a retired executive of Dominion Energy with an extensive background of leading organizations in the power industry. He serves as the Chairman of the Board of the Dominion Energy Credit Union and has served previously on the Board of GRASP and other local non-profit boards in the Richmond area. Ken is married to Debbie, and they have two daughters, Jennifer and Rebekah. Personal interests include serving at Gayton Baptist Church and enjoying the beautiful mountains in Virginia.
WE ARE GRATEFUL TO NBC12 WWBT
GRASP advisors were on NBC-12's "Call-12" phone lines in early November answering callers' questions about the financial aid process and the FAFSA. Thank you to NBC-12 for this annual opportunity to showcase GRASP. This year's featured student was Jay Guan, a current VCU senior and one of our Reach for the Stars 2016 student speakers.
