Prom 2018

The high school celebrated their prom on Saturday, April 28th at Duneland Falls Banquet Hall in Chesterton. The theme was Moroccan Nights, and the hall was decorated beautifully with magic carpets, genie lamps, and glowing lanterns. The junior class worked very hard to make the night special and memorable for all students. Along with dancing, eating, and taking pictures in the photo booth, a prince and princess from the junior class and a king and queen from the senior class were chosen by the students in attendance. The junior class prince chosen was Tyler Hunter, and the junior class princess chosen was Arianna Hurtado. The senior class king chosen was Chris Tyler and the senior class queen chosen was Star Chiang. Overall, the night was beautiful and fun for all the students involved. The junior class is already beginning to make preparations for next year's prom.

Job shadow event with union carpenters and millwrights

Hobart High School students attended a job shadow event at the Union Carpenters & Millwrights facility in Merrillville. As part of their Work Based Learning Class, students are able to explore areas of interest that they may want to pursue after high school. During this trip students learned that the Carpenters Union has training programs on site and their classes begin as early as June of 2018. If you are graduating senior and are interested in learning more, see Ms. Torres in Guidance, and she can provide you with all needed paperwork.

New Chess team sees success

Four high school chess team members – Jace Musick, Andrew Romes, James Corgan, and Alex Termini- competed at the Pushy Pawns tournament in West Lafayette, Indiana and won 1st place as a team. Teams and individuals from all over Indiana competed in a 4 round tournament – many of these competitors have high USCF ratings. While our Brickies did well on the individual level, they ended up winning 1st place in the Team Division – winning over teams from Purdue and Crown Point. Well done, Brickies!

Notes from the nurse, Mrs. Guarnero

Parents or guardians of current students in grade 11-

The Indiana State Department of Health has updated the required immunizations for the 2018-2019 school year. Students entering grade 12 must have a MCV4 booster for the Meningitis vaccine they received in sixth grade and two Hepatitis A vaccines. The minimum interval between the first and second dose of Hepatitis A is six months. It is important for you to review your child’s immunization record to make sure they do not need to start the Hepatitis A vaccine now. The Meningitis booster and the two Hepatitis A vaccines are required to start the 2018-2019 school year. Do not delay and contact your healthcare provider today to verify if your child needs the vaccines for next school year. Feel free to contact the school with any questions.
