UMHS One Book. One School. 2017
Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood by Marjane Satrapi
WHY THIS BOOK?
For the past three years, we have conducted our One Book. One School. Summer Reading Program here at Upper Moreland High School. The goal of the program is to engage our entire UMHS family in the focused reading of one title that will link to the themes and character education opportunities of the upcoming school year. This year's choice, Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood, is particularly timely as it provides our students with a global perspective on some of the challenges they have, or may in the future, faced as they navigate our ever changing world. We also are hearing from the perspective of a female narrator for the first time as our past three titles, The Other Wes Moore, The Warrior's Heart, and The Phantom Tollbooth, have been told in male voices.
We have also chosen a new genre of literature this year - a graphic novel - rather than reading a traditional memoir or novel.
