Welcome Back Panthers!
There are not enough words to describe the amazing week we've had here at school! I can’t tell you how excited I am to have the best part of this school back…your kids! This week, students got to know their teachers, their peers and the routines here at school, and now we are ready to learn! I am working on getting to every classroom to read to the students introducing our theme “Train Your Brain” by reading What Do You DO with A Problem? By Kobi Yamada. I visited 4th grade today and will be reading this wonderful book to the rest of the school next week. This year we will take our theme from last year “Be Brave” and apply it to teaching the traits of joyful, independent growth. We are so excited about this work!
This week we also practiced rules and procedures to keep us safe in school like our P.A.W.S. (Pride, Attitude, Wise Choice, Safety). We had some school-wide safety drills, and an amazing Pep Rally where all of our houses (earth, wind, fire & air) were represented! The staff and I are excited to share more with you on what we do here at New Prospect that makes us so special at Curriculum Night on August 23rd. I am so honored to #experienceNewProspect each and every day!
Although we are all getting settled in, remember class placement is not final till after the 10 day count. This means that your child's teacher might be changing. You will be notified of this change by phone if it affects your child. These changes would be as a result of teacher allocations provided to us by the district. These allocations are determined by the number of students who show up within the first 10 days of the school year.
Thank you for your never-ending support!

Aloha Panthers!
We all know “Aloha” means “hello & goodbye”. But did you know there lies a deeper meaning? The spirit of Aloha was a cultural guidance system for ancient Hawaiians who taught their children “The Ways of Aloha”. The Values of Aloha transcend culture, geography, and time.
ALOHA: Aloha is a value of unconditional love.
KŪLIA I KA NU‘U: “Strive to reach the summit.” Pursue personal excellence in all you do.
OHANA: Those who are family, and those you choose to call your family.
LŌKAHI: Teamwork, collaboration, harmony and unity. Work together to achieve more.
KĀKOU: The value of communication, for “All of us.” We are in this together.
IKE LOA: To seek knowledge and wisdom. “Learn, Grow and Expand into greater Aloha/Love/Harmony as We Walk Up the Mountain of Life.”
ALAKA‘I: Leadership”. You shall be the guide for others when you have gained their trust and respect.
MĀLAMA: The value of stewardship. To serve and to honor. To protect and care for.
MAHALO: “Thank you”. Live in thankfulness for the richness that makes life so precious.
Join us to say “Aloha” to our New Prospect Ohana!
Dress: Wear Hawaiian wear that would make Magnum PI, Danno, Sarah Marshall and Moana proud!

Important Reminders
Parents, please remember that school starts at 7:40am and the building opens for students at 7:10am. Please do not drop your children off before 7:10am as we do not have supervision for students until 7:10am. If you need to drop your child off prior to this time, there are several daycare options close by. Thank you for understanding.
Each year we are required to practice all of our safety drills during the first week of the semester. This way we are prepared and know what to do in case of emergency. Over the course of this week your child participated in a soft and hard lockdown drill as well as shelter and evacuate drills. The students did an excellent job listening to their teachers and following directions. We will conduct another evacuation drill next week as required by the state and then these will occur once a month. Thank you for understanding that we cannot allow parents to check students out while we are in the middle of a drill.
Summer Reading!
Did you read any good books over the summer? Don’t forget to record your reading for our summer reading program and turn it in by August 31. Participants win an ice cream sundae in September with Ms. Welch and Ms. Lemons!
Brain Building Days
“Brain Building Time” will happen for your child once a month. Your child will rotate through four sessions. Guidance with Mrs. McLeod, Media Center with Mrs. Bercher, Enrichment Time with Ms. Zarzour & Ms. Welch and Typing in the Computer Lab!
One of the reasons we are instituting Brain Building is to allow dedicated time for our counselor, media spiciest and CSTs to work with students and share their areas of expertise without interrupting the normal day. Additionally, it provides our teachers with a block of time to really dive in and plan units targeted to their students’ individual areas of need.
Next Brain Building Days:
August 14th (1st: 8:00-10:40 & 2nd 11:30-2:10)
August 21st (4th: 8:00-10:40 & 5th 11:30-2:10)
September 4th (K 8:00-10:40 & 3rd 11:30-2:10)
