January Newsletter
Cholla HS 23-24SY
Mr. Miranda - Principal
Hello Students, Parents and Guardians,
I hope everyone had a restful winter break. Second semester will be very busy, and it always goes by very quickly. Students, make sure you are staying on top of your academic responsibilities starting on day 1. Make sure you have a plan in place regarding your credits and a plan toward graduation. If you have any questions about Credit Recovery or Summer School, make sure you schedule an appointment with your counselor.
A new year brings a fresh start. Try to get into the habit of making positive choices every day. The first choice is to get to school on time. The second choice is to attend all your classes during the day and get there before the last bell. The final choice is to complete the work to the best of your ability each day. If you are able to accomplish this, you are almost guaranteed to be successful! Seniors, this will be your final semester at Cholla High School, so make sure it is a positive experience!

Curriculum Updates by Cathy Adams - Assistant Principal
Happy New Year and welcome back to your Spring Semester.
Seniors, please remember that this last semester of your high school years will go quickly. It is very important that you attend all of your classes and talk to your counselor to make sure you have all of your credits in order to graduate on time. Graduation will be on Wednesday, May 22nd, 2024, here on the Ed Brown Field.
Juniors, talk to your counselor to make sure you are on track to graduate next year. Juniors, Sophomores and Freshman, if you have failed a class, think about joining the Cholla Before and After School program for credit recovery for any course that you failed. Students meet with your teachers if you have any questions on the curriculum you are learning. All teachers offer tutoring, just ask them directly for their tutoring hours. It is important that all students are attending every class and that you are on time. Parents, please help us by encouraging your child to be on time to class.
If you need any assistance, please reach out to your counselor. We look forward to an exciting Spring semester!

Greetings Cholla Chargers and welcome back!
This is a busy semester as we finish this year and plan for the next. Please complete your online registration if you haven’t already done so and get ready for course selection as that process will begin shortly (including for our incoming 8th graders). Counselors will be sharing information soon!
We are announcing some changes to our student drop-off/pick-up policies effective immediately. Due to lack of parking space and our continued efforts to keep our campus safe, we will be locking the Administration parking lot each day at 8:00am and it will remain locked for the entire day. All student drop-offs and pick-ups before, during, and after school will take place in the student lot.
We apologize for the changes and understand that change can be challenging but with accidents/near misses/students and parents being locked off of campus/and no parking spaces were issues that needed to be addressed. We thank you for your understanding.
Save the date: Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, February 8 from 5:00 – 7:00pm.
Administration will give a short presentation in the auditorium from 5:00 – 5:30 and then teachers and counselors will be available to meet with you in the Commons building. We will also need parents to participate in our Focus Group at 6:00pm. More information to come!
Counseling Department
Welcome back, Cholla High School family, to the start of the second semester! We hope everyone enjoyed a restful break and is ready for the exciting opportunities the new year brings.
📚 Credit Recovery for 1st Semester Failures: For students who faced challenges in the first semester and received an 'F,' it's essential to schedule a meeting with your counselor promptly. We are offering before and after school credit recovery options to ensure a successful academic journey.
🎓 Seniors' Graduation Reminder: Seniors, a quick reminder! You cannot enroll in credit recovery for a class you are currently enrolled in, regardless of if you are passing that course or not. Any second semester 'Fs' will need to be made up in summer school, affecting your graduation date. Let's work together to stay on track for a memorable May graduation.
📆 Course Registration for 9th-11th Graders: Parents of 9th-11th graders, mark your calendars! Course registration for the upcoming academic year is approaching. Our counselors will be visiting English classes during the last two weeks of January to assist students in signing up for classes.
👨👩👧👦 Parent Zoom Presentation: To provide valuable insights into course options and electives, we invite you to a Parent Zoom Presentation on Thursday, January 18th, at 6:30 pm. This session is a fantastic opportunity for you to ask questions about classes and the registration process, helping your student make informed decisions aligning with their future college and career goals. More details on this Presentation will be sent out next week.
Here's to a fantastic second semester filled with growth and achievement! 🌟
IB - International Baccalaureate by Teresa Green
Assessment Season and Testing Season is impacting the IB Seniors. Many of the Seniors completed Internal Assessments that will be uploaded into the IB Information System for external grading. As the students know, they have more IA deadlines to come in the next two months. Please support your student by encouraging good attendance. Missing classes during this final semester will impact their IB grades.
February 8-14 is Mock Exam time for the IB Seniors.
As you project ahead, be sure to have your student in town for their IB Exams, May 1-15.
Our IB Juniors have completed their first semester of IB! I will be talking to students over the next few weeks about their progress in their IB classes. Most students have done very well! Others may need to:
- Improve their attendance - fewer absences and fewer tardies.
- Improve their study skills/time management skills by turning in work on time.
- Talk to the counselors, IB Coordinator or IB teacher for hints on how to improve their time management skills.
- Take advantage of tutoring offered by their teachers in order to get extra help and bring their grades up.
- Talk to their IB teacher, the IB Coordinator or their counselor if personal issues are negatively impacting their grades.
Students need to contact their respective teachers to arrange tutoring appointments.
