Writer's Workshop
During Writer's workshop we are going to take a break from writing stories and concentrate on fun Thanksgiving activities! One day we are going to try to persuade our reader's to eat something instead of turkey for the holidays. We will also try to recreate our favorite Thanksgiving recipes!
Reader's Workshop
This week during Reading we will be reviewing old concepts such as predict, setting, fiction/nonfiction, characters and making connections with Thanksgiving books. Students will be able to pair share with their shoulder partners as well as record their thinking in their Reader's Response journals!
Phonics
We are going to begin our unit on vowels! This unit will help the students become more conscious of the visual details in words and draw attention to the role of vowels in words. We will practice sorting long and short vowels and begin work with their letter/sound relationships!
Math
This past week we have been studying time to the half hour!
Next week we will begin working with numbers again. We will work with comparing numbers, place value, different ways to represent numbers, and much more.
Science
We have finished up our unit on matter and are moving on to ENERGY!
Sound, Heat, and Sound!
We will be learning about these different sources of energy, what they do for us, and what objects can provide them.
Social Studies
In Social Studies we will be learning the story of Thanksgiving! We will begin practicing to retell the story of Thanksgiving by creating bracelets! Each bead will represent a different event that occurred. These bracelets will go home with your child on Friday. Please be sure to ask your child about the story of Thanksgiving :)
