Accreditation Window [3/18 - 3/28]

WDS has been a nationally accredited program since 2014. We are extremely proud of being accredited and our teachers/staff have worked so hard to obtain this achievement... from documentation, curriculum, interactions, and so much more!

Our Accreditation Window is rapidly approaching (Monday, 3/18 - Thursday, 3/28)! During these 2 weeks, two validators from our Accreditation program will *SURPRISE* drop-in for a couple days to observe our classrooms and teachers, to check out the facility, and to review the document box that the office has been diligently putting together!

We are not allowed to have any outside visitors during this time (i.e. in-house activities, enrichments, etc.). If you have to drop by during the day (besides morning arrival and afternoon pick-up) please be sure to come by the office to check in!

Give our WDS staff a word of encouragement leading up to this very exciting and nerve-wracking time! They work hard for your children, for WDS, and for this accreditation!

CMoR Book Drive (Month of March)

We Need Your Help! March into Literacy Month is THIS MONTH, and to celebrate this important initiative, WDS is partnering for the 3rd year in a row with the Children's Museum of Richmond to support the Central Virginia Book Bank by collecting new or gently used books!

The Central Virginia Book Bank donates books directly to children ages 0 - 13 and organizations who serve at-risk children throughout Central Virginia.

Drop any book donations off in the bins located in the 2nd & 3rd floor hallways! Last year, we collected an impressive 528 books. Let's strive for 600 or MORE this year!

Muffins with Mom [Friday, May 10th]

We got to celebrate our WDS Dad's... now it's Mom's turn! Join us on Friday, May 10th (during AM Snack Time) for Muffins with Mom!

REMINDER: WDS will be closed for Good Friday (4/19) and Easter Monday (4/22)!

WDS Spring Carnival [Thursday, 4/25]

We're so excited for Spring Carnival Thursday, 4/25! Enjoy an afternoon full of family fun, pony rides, yummy food, bounce houses, carnival games, silent auction, and so much more! Your child's Room Parent will be coordinating your support creating the Classroom's Silent Auction Basket!

If you're able to be more involved with the Spring Carnival, plan on coming to the WDSAC Carnival Planning Meeting on Tuesday, 2/12 at 4:30 PM!

5th Annual WDS Golf Tournament

In Like a Lion... Out Like a Lamb

One of the reasons I enjoy the farmer's almanac is that even they agree with the percentage of probability -- at least sometimes the weather forecast must be true! I believe this may be a bit more reliable than depending on the groundhog for predictions!

According to the almanac, folks used to be worried that bad spirits could adversely affect the weather, and they were very cautious about what they said and did in regards to weather. They believed that like in life, there was a balance with weather. So if a month came in bad (lion), it should go out nice and calm (lamb).

Since March is such a changeable month in weather patterns, from warm spring like days to an afternoon of snow showers, we can see how this might be a saying that we would use for the month of March. We hope that if March starts out blustery and cold, that it will end springy and warm. The key word, I believe here, is hope.

Me, I am going to go with the second definition listed of hope in the Webster's dictionary. The first says: "to cherish a desire with anticipation." The second, however, is "to expect with confidence." I have confidence that the warm spring weather will find it's way to us soon! After all, we have the tried and true law of balance on our side!
