The Outsiders

We have read the first few chapters of The Outsiders and the kids are loving it! If you child misses a class when we are reading, a PDF copy of the book is available here. I have asked that students NOT read ahead, as this tends to be a disadvantage on quizzes and often spoils class discussion. If your child is in love with The Outsiders, think about checking out or purchasing S.E. Hinton's other books, with similar themes:

That Was Then, This Is Now

Rumble Fish

Movie Permission

We will be watching The Outsiders in our theater the week of May 16th. The movie is rated PG-13, so every student will need to bring in a signed permission slip to attend. This slip was sent home last week on a half sheet of white paper. More slips are available in the classroom, if needed.

Dress Like A...

*Dress like a soc day: Wednesday, May 18th - preppy 1960s, plaid shirts, letter jackets, cardigans, polos, etc.

*Dress like a greaser day: Thursday, May 19th - leather jackets, denim jackets, jeans, anything black, boots, Converse All-Stars, etc.

There is no need to purchase new attire for these days. In order to receive the extra credit, I just need to be able to tell that effort was put in.

Book Donation Request

Each year, I allow students to borrow books from my personal classroom library. There are hundreds and hundreds of books to choose from, but I lose at least one hundred of them each school year. Please take a look around your house and car and encourage your child to return any books they might come across with my name on them.

In order to keep the selection fresh, I ask my students and parents to consider donating a book (or more!) to our classroom library. My students read at levels as low as kindergarten and as high as high school, so almost all books are fair game! I will give students a reward for their/your generous donations of books. Thank you!

There are only 3 weeks left in the school year! Please ask your child if s/he has homework each night and check Parent Portal often. Report cards will come out before you know it, and this is the time of year when some students fall behind.
