Principal's Message
March 16, 2018
Dear Willink Families,
I was so proud of our students this week as they honored those who lost their lives at Stoneman Douglas High School last month and committed to build empathy and connections across our school community. I posted a photo of four notecards your children wrote to the students in Parkland. If you have not seen it, please go to our Twitter feed or our webpage to view it. They were supportive, caring and thoughtful in their notes. I have been reading through the hundreds turned in and am moved by them. Additionally, students have been very intentional this week in lifting each other up. To see them bring the "17 ways" to life is heartwarming. You have great children and we are lucky to have them in our school. Our student leaders deserve a big thank you. They did an incredible job creating the activities and leading them. Finally, our staff also did a fantastic job supporting these activities in the classroom. Teachers were eager to be part of supporting our students as they participated. When our staff fosters student leadership and helps students continue to grow in terms of empathy and being an upstander, we all win.
Our Water for South Sudan fundraiser continues to exceed our expectations. We have raised almost $1500 and have sold out of all the water bottles and key chains. If you would still like to donate, it is not too late! Students can donate loose change to our Jar Wars competition in any of the four school offices. The one administrator with the least amount of money will be saved, but the remaining three, with the most amount of money, will be duct taped to a wall in front of the student body! You can donate to the Water for South Sudan fundraising page online through April 6th - just click on the link! https://water-for-south-sudan-inc.networkforgood.com/projects/47284-willink-middle-school-s-water-for-south-sudan-project I am so proud of our students for thinking about others and wanting to take action on a global level. Thanks for your strong support of this effort.
If you are looking for something fun to do tonight, come to Candy Bar BINGO! It starts at 6:30 and is always a lot of fun! Next Tuesday, I hope you join us for another "Coffee with the Principal" at 9:30. We will be touring the building as well as our usual roundtable. Looking forward to seeing you then!
Have a great weekend and a Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Jim
