Homecoming Thanks & ProEthica--Year Two
Dear Cougar Family,
First of all, I'd like to take a moment to thank everyone who made our Homecoming Week so amazing! Valarie Reed and Randi Costenbader put on a halftime show the likes of which are hard to match, and our StuCo sponsors--Mindi Cameron, April Todd, and Jonathan Brady--guided our kids into throwing the largest dance we've ever had! Thank you to all of you who participated in dress up days, participated in the tailgate, and chaperoned the dance! None of these events are possible without our amazing team of educators!
Last year, CSISD adopted the ProEthica program, "an online professional development program designed to help educators balance caring for students with maintaining proper professional distance. By having teachers and school leaders think through ethical dilemmas and situations in advance, the ProEthica program helps prepare them to make decisions that minimize risk and protect students." At this point, each teacher should have received an email regarding log-in information for year 2. This year's training will be a combination of online modules and discussion groups. Before our professional learning day next Monday, please complete the following in ProEthica:
- ALL TEACHERS must complete the year 2 introductory modules (the 1st and 2nd modules).
TEACHERS NEW to CSISD must complete the first two modules of year 1 in addition to the introduction to year 2.
I will include time built in on Monday morning to pay you back for investing time in the modules this week. (If we all try to do ProEthica at once, we overload the system.)
Our professional learning on Monday will include 2 ProEthica discussions, relational practices, PSAT Day training for October 10th, and curriculum/lesson design work time. The complete schedule and link to register in Eduphoria will be sent out by Wednesday.
May you all have an incredible week!
As always, COUGAR PRIDE!

Cougar Qualities--Understanding of Others
Please peruse the Understanding of Others Lesson Notes and the presentation slides before the end of the day Monday and let Kim Rodgers know if you have any questions.
The more prepared and engaged YOU are the more engaged your students will be!

EdCamp CSTX
What's an EdCamp?
EdCamps are free PD built around conversations instead of presentation. The sessions are created on the morning of the event by the people who attend, for the people who attend. Here's a 1 min video overview of how an EdCamp works.
Why attend EdCampCSTX?
I have attended a handful of EdCamps, and I have yet to leave disappointed. Without going on and on, here are a few of the things I really enjoy about EdCamps:
- The people you meet (and the ways it's easy to stay connected throughout the year)
- The power of conversations (as opposed to presentations) for professional learning
- The chance to learn about whatever I want from educators throughout the day (& to learn SO much throughout one day)
- The fantastic giveaways at the end of the day (i.e. great books, subscriptions to services, even conference registrations)
But won't it take up my entire Saturday?
Not this year! Our day will run from 8:00-12:30, so you won't have to give up your entire Saturday to participate in EdCampCSTX.
Can I get comp time?
Yes! CSISD employees can sign up in Eduphoria and complete the survey after the event to earn 4 hours of comp time.
More info & registration
The EdCampCSTX website is the best place to get more info. If you're already sold and want to know where to sign up, you can take care of the free registration here.
If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are looking forward to this day of learning. I hope that you can be part of EdCampCSTX!
