Kindergarten Remote Learning
Reed-Custer Elementary School
Week 2 (April 20th - April 24th)
Overview
Our first concern is the well being of the kindergarten students. If you need anything please always reach out to your student's teacher via email or contact Mrs. Faletti.
Assignments for the whole week will be posted via a weekly newsletter (like this one) by Monday at 8:30 AM. You will get a unique newsletter link weekly. You can also find the link on the District Website under Remote Learning for Kindergarten. Assignments are due every Friday.
Classes will meet at 9am every Monday and Friday. Your teacher will take attendance during these meetings. You will receive a zoom link specific for your class from your teacher before each meeting. Click on the link to join the Zoom meeting. Downloading the Zoom app on your device will make this easy. You can also do it on your computer.
Assignments
Three of those assignments will be turned in by recording a 1 minute video of you explaining and showing your work in FlipGrid. You will know you need to turn it in because you will find a "Submit Assignment Here" button underneath the description. All you need to do is click on the button to submit it whenever you are ready between Monday and Friday. It will ask for an ID which is your first name and your teacher's first initial (all lowercase). Each assignment turned in will be reviewed and feedback will be provided either as a comment or a video. You will receive your feedback through a link sent to you by the teacher.
For example, you submit your three assignments (let's say maybe one on Tuesday and two on Thursday perhaps) and your teacher will provide feedback by sending you a separate link for each assignment you submitted (lets say they email you on Friday perhaps with the three links. You will then click on each link to see your feedback for the assignment you submitted).
You do not need a FlipGrid account to submit your assignment but if you download the app on your phone it makes it easier. You can also record and submit via your computer as well.
This Week in Math...
Counting to 100
- Get some flour, salt, sand, dirt, and put it into a shallow baking pan. Use your finger to write your numbers!
- Write your numbers 1-100 to use when you count or use a hundreds chart found here. If you are needing help with how to write check out these poems!
- Use 100 dixie cups (or something similar) and build a tower while you count to 100!
- Check out this video for counting to 100 Fun!
Bonds to Ten on a Ten Frame
- Snack Time! Fill up your ten frame with snacks. Use a piece of paper to keep track of what you filled in and ate! (For example if you ate 3 cheerios and 8 gold fish write it into an equation and keep track! Then when you eat 5 more goldfish and 5 more cheerios write another equation and now you have filled up two ten frames! That's 20!)
- Roll two numbers and represent them on your ten frame (3 pennies and 5 quarters) then write an equation to represent your ten frame (3+5=8)
- Fill your ten frame then roll one number and take that many items away. (10 pennies then take away 4) then write an equation to represent your ten frame (10-4=6)
For an additional Fluency Game follow the link to Math Fluency Add within 5 Kahoot (Game Pin: 0316361) or make a t-chart like this or number line and roll and cover the numbers as you find them!
Adding and Subtracting within 10
Let's practice our math together!
- Get a piece of paper ready and something to write with! Watch the video below and follow along, recording your thinking on a piece of paper as we go
- When your paper is full of your math thinking explain it to a family member or your stuffed animals :) (Feel free to go back and think of all the different ways you could represent what you saw in the video with different numbers, equations, and drawings besides what you saw and add those to your paper!)
- Then when you're ready click on the button below to record yourself explaining your thinking on FlipGrid! Make sure to show us your work.
Log in to FlipGrid with your ID which is YOUR FIRST NAME and your teacher's FIRST INITIAL.
For example your ID might be joeb if you are in Brown's Class, or carlw if you were in Wilkerson's class, or rachaelw if you were in Walsh's class. Notice all letters are lowercase in the ID.
An Egg-Citing Announcement for Kindergarten!
This Week in Reading...
Sight Word Reading and Writing
Ideas for sight word fun:
- Watch these mix and fix videos for go, like, and see to practice like we do at school! (if you need "magnet letters" just make a card for each letter of the alphabet and use those!)
- Get sticky notes and write each sight word two times on the back. Lay them all down (or stick them somewhere) and create your own sight word memory game! Be sure to read the words when you pick them, and for an extra challenge you can write the ones you got a match too and keep track each round who got what!
- Get outside and write with sidewalk chalk!!
Bonus! Keep practicing good letter and number formation by using these links for Apple or Kindle
Reading Comprehension
Find our letter chart here to support sounding out words in your writing and don't forget to use your sight words too! When you're done check out our writing expectations chart to make sure you remembered everything a good writer does! :)
Share what you wrote by reading your writing aloud to a family member or stuffed animal. Then explain your illustration. Once you are ready, click the button below to record yourself reading your writing and explaining your illustrations in FlipGrid. Make sure to show us your work! :)
