Message From The Principal: Week of 2/12/2018
Dear PRT Family,
Next week our 8th graders will have enrollment talks (more info below) and future-freshman meetings will continue in the coming weeks. For all students, enrollment discuss for 18-19 is underway. It's an exciting time for the "behind-the-scenes" part of PRT in that we are constantly looking at numbers to determine courses, number of sections, etc. as we begin the process to building the 18-19 master schedule. It's a process that begins now and likely won't finish until late spring. Next year is certainly upon us in the office, but our primary focus continues to be the day-to-day experience your child receives at PRT. After all, there's still so much left to accomplish for this school year...it's a great time to be a husky!

8th Grade Enrollment Info (email from last week)
I wanted to get some info to you ASAP regarding high school enrollment information. I will include this info in this weekend’s newsletter as well but with one of dates coming up so quickly I did not want to wait until the weekend. Important Reminders...
107th Street
We appreciate all those following the traffic pattern promoted throughout this school year. The pattern created was done so with input from the city, police, district, and building personnel and was created in attempt to create the safest, most efficient traffic flow for students. Students should be dropped off along the curb on the west side of the building. Please do not drop your students off on 107th Street leading up to PRT. Students dropped off along 107th St. are then forced to cross traffic on a public 2-way street without proper supervision or a dedicated crosswalk.
Thank you for your continued efforts to help the arrival and departure at PRT run smoothly!
Traffic Pattern
All traffic should arrive from Valley Road. Traffic coming from Lone Elm after 7:20am will be directed to Valley Road to complete a U-turn back into the traffic pattern. This measure helps make student drop-off more efficient. The front drive is used for bus traffic only from 7:15-7:40 and 3:10-3:20pm. An exception to this guideline is visitors who are parking and coming into the building.
The following email was sent out on December 18th to all PRT Famililes...
Dear PRT Parents,
One of our staff members, Adrianne Biorkman, who has worked with our special education department as a para for the past 5+ years, was recently diagnosed with cancer and learned it has spread to multiple organs. Mrs. Biorkman has made such a positive impact on so many kids at PRT and is a leader within the special education program. She is a PRT parent with a 7th grade son and a daughter who is now a junior at ONW. I received the GoFundMe link created by her brother-in-law and would like to share it with the PRT Family for any who are interested in supporting Adrianne and her family.
Shared with me was how important positivity and humor are to Adrianne. Your thoughts, prayers, and generosity are appreciated by the family during this tough time. Thank you for any support you are able to provide.

Students Living in Summit Trail Boundaries...
REMINDER:
Current 7th graders living in the new Summit Trail boundaries who want to attend PRT next school year, while allowed, still must turn in a transfer request.
Current 6th graders living in the new Summit Trail boundaries are to attend Summit Trail. Consideration to remain at PRT would require a transfer request with approval.
Those impacted by new boundaries for Summit Trail Middle School should have already received a letter from the district with additional details (sent out 11/20).
Transfer forms are available in the PRT front office. Contact PRT data op, Lisa Carpenter, with questions at lmcarpenter@olatheschools.org or 913-780-7280.

Kindness Contest
Dear PRT Family,
Your student has the opportunity to participate in a kindness competition called Elevate brought to our school by Lifestyle Publications and sponsored by Audi and Commerce Bank. Students who choose to participate in this optional challenge can come up with an idea or project that spreads positivity, thoughtfulness and kindness in our school. They will then be asked to create a video or photo explaining the idea and will then need to show that idea put into action. The community can vote on the projects in an online contest forum, and the one with the most votes at the end of the voting round will win $1000. A new winner will be selected every month, so students can enter the contest more than once. Students who wish to participate in Elevate will need consent from a parent or guardian (attached below).
To find out more details about Elevate, visit JohnsonCountyLifestyle.com/Elevate or watch the video link here: https://vimeo.com/230862731/304ebb654d
