Staying Connected During Social Distancing
Well there is no doubt that the novelty of social distancing has worn off and many of you are missing hanging out with your friends face to face! I hear ya! Humans are social beings - we enjoy connecting with others. Having to stay at home right now can be a very challenging and lonely time. It's okay to feel that way. Believe me, you are not alone!
Having a daughter that lives in London, I feel like I've been practicing social distancing for quite some time now. Using technology has really helped our family stay connected like going on virtual walks, watching movies and sports, playing games and even sharing a few family meals. It can be done with a little creativity! Look at it this way...we may need to be physically distant, but we can still be social. We are fortunate that we have so many options with technology to help us stay connected. Can you imagine what your grandparents would have done back in the day?
Below are some suggestions on how to stay connected during distance learning. If you have some great ideas on how to stay connected please send them my way and I will add to this list! We can do this!
Staying Connected with the help of Technology
1. Video Chat
2. Play a Game
3. Fun in the Kitchen
4. Virtual Anything
5. Start a Book Club
6. Photo Fun
Anyone that walks into my office will see that I am obsessed with photos! Now is the time to take advantage of getting to know your friends even better by exchanging photos. Share photos of your pets, backyard, favorite place in your house, your annoying siblings (JK), art work, hobbies..
I have been on virtual tours and have seen forts being built, tents outside, gatherings around outside firepits. You guys are so CREATIVE! Share your adventures with photos!
7. Movie Night
8. "Live" Anything
Connecting without Technology
1. Write A Letter
2. Wave Hello
3. Call a Friend
3. Service Project
Take Time for You
Explore a New Hobby
If it's difficult to connect with others, try and use this time as an opportunity to do things you may not have had a chance to do before. Explore a new hobby or interest - just last week a student showed me her beautiful Diamond Art projects. Maybe there is something you've been wanting to do or learn (there are lots of free classes on the internet...drawing, cooking, origami, exercise). Have fun learning something new.
