Amira Wins 3rd Consecutive Cooke County Spelling Bee
Amira Khan, GJH 7th grader, won the Cooke County Scripps Spelling Bee for the 3rd consecutive year. She correctly spelled the word “cattail” in the 23rd round to win the Bee. The top spellers from each participating Cooke County school were invited to compete in the Bee. To be eligible, the student must be in 4th-8th grade. Also competing from GISD schools were Jackson Otts, representing Lee, and Kimberlee Brooks, representing Chalmers.
Amira will represent Cooke County at the 62nd annual Golden Chick Dallas Regional Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 7, 2020, at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.
27 Redcoats Qualify for State!
The GHS Redcoats competed at the UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest in Sanger on February 1st. They took an unprecedented 50 entries, and came home with 63 medals! In the end, 10 soloists and 5 ensembles (27 band members total) qualified for State, some as both a soloist and as part of an ensemble.

Izaiah Baker Signs Letter of Intent
Board of Trustees Calls Bond Election
On February 6, 2020 at a special-called meeting, the GISD Board of Trustees approved and called an Order of Election for a May 2, 2020 Bond Election in the amount of $35,100,000.
Prior to making the final decision, the Board reviewed all of the information as well as options that were developed by the Facilities Steering Committee.
The proposal will be as follows:
Expansion of Chalmers campus - $12,781,954
Expansion of Lee campus - $ 13,013,400
Capital Improvements - $9,263,176
The expansion of the Lee and Chalmers campuses would decommission Edison Elementary from student use.
