2017-2018: Continuous Learning and Growth for All!
Our Mission: Arbor Springs Committed to Student Success.
From Dr. Durrance and Dr. Tarleton
As the school year will end and summer begins, we want to tell you what a wonderful year we have had at Arbor Springs, thanks to the support of our staff and families!
We bid a fond farewell to some good friends this year. Mrs. Iyengar is moving to Minnesota to be with her husband. She has been an integral part of our program for quite some time.
Mrs. Deling is retiring and is looking forward to wonderful new adventures, as well as being a stay at home dog mom! She has enriched the lives of students (and staff) at Arbor Springs for many years.
Nurse Rebecca is off to Northgate, where she will be able to reconnect with former Arbor Springs students and families. Although we are glad she will be reunited with some of our students, we will miss her! We wish her the best of luck in her new position!
Dr. Quick will be the new director of psychology for the county. We are proud and excited for her in her new role. She will continue to support Arbor Springs from her county position.
Mrs. Berry (formerly Dougherty) is going home to her alma mater, The Heritage School. They are lucky to have her and we will miss her.
Ms. Lewandowski is moving to a new position at another school in Coweta County, Arnco Sargeant. We appreciate the work she has done here and we wish her well.
While we will miss these long-time friends, we look forward to making new friends as we hold these in our hearts forevermore. We will introduce you to some new staff members in our summer update.
We hope you have a fun-filled summer break and have plenty of opportunities to read, write, think, and learn. If you're looking for inspiration, click on the link for the summer reading challenge from the media center, and also check out the free articles from Readworks.org linked below.
Also consider www.newsela.com. There, you'll find articles about current events and you can adjust the Lexile to make it harder or easier for your student. It's also a great way to see what the different Lexiles look like!
To keep your math skills sharp, click here for grade appropriate materials.
We hope you will take advantage of some quick and easy learning time every day so that you come back in August ready for school!

Nurse's Notes
Can’t believe the end of the school year is here! It always goes by so fast! Please do not forget to pick up any medications that have been left at school. Inhalers, Epi-Pens, cough drops, Advil, Tylenol, and many others. Please, do not forget! Some are expensive and I don’t want to have to throw them away.
For our 5th graders….you made it!! Congratulations and good luck on your new middle school adventure!! I know you are going to do great – because you are great! All immunizations have been forwarded to Madras. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call.
As many of you have heard, I am transferring to Northgate High School next year. I just want to say Thank you, Thank you, Thank you – from the bottom of my heart – for 16 wonderful years at Arbor Springs. I have many wonderful memories that I will forever hold dear in my heart!! Thank you for the honor and privilege of being your nurse! I love, love, love you all!!! Nurse Rebecca
Counselor's Corner
Swimming in a School of Character:
Our character word for the month of May is ambitious. Ambition is a character trait that many strive to achieve throughout life. Introducing your child to success stories that might inspire them, and to role models from areas of life in which they have an interest helps foster ambition. Encourage them to think about the effort that has gone into their heroes’ success – what matters is that your child sees their own potential reflected in them. Give your children opportunities to see new things, new places, and meet new people. Set them challenges that will stretch them. Celebrate the successes with them.

Arbor Springs needs your help! A mentor provides additional attention and support for students and serves as a guide, a counselor, and a friend. Please email me, (keivia.clay@cowetaschools.net) if you are interested in becoming a mentor for next school year! Mentor Training Schedule 2018-2019
Thank you to The Mahaffey Orthodontics!
All Smiles Award is presented to a student in 4th and 5th grade who has an exceptional attitude. Mahaffey Orthodontics has provided a $100 Amazon Gift Card to the student, as well as a donation to our school for awards.
PTA Notes
Thank you to all the students and families who joined us for Spring Fling this year. It turned out to be a beautiful day to enjoy food, inflatables, and carnival games. Thank you to Michael Laidlaw for volunteering as a DJ at the event. Also, thank you to all the moms and dads who volunteered that day. The evening would not have been a success without your help. Based on our current financials, the evening brought in over $ 8,000. This money will be used for the 2018-2019 school year.
If you, as a parent, would be interested in reviewing the PTA’s financials, the most recent Profit and Loss statement can be found in the PTA suggestion mailbox located in the front office.
Thanks,
Mary Knight
