Message from the Principal

Beginning on Monday, Prairie will be transitioning to a 4-day instructional week for the remainder of the current school year as will all of the other Waukesha Schools. This means new instruction and assignments will only be pushed out from teachers Monday-Thursday each week. Friday will be a catch-up and support day and optional virtual meetings can still happen, but there will be nothing new required. Students' routine of reading and math (dreambox or Matific) everyday of the week will continue. Teachers will send out those reminders on Fridays. Staff will be available for virtual office hours, conferencing opportunities with students or parents/guardians, and for staff collaboration.

Acting Prairie Principal

Social Emotional Learning

Now that your students are getting used to the idea that they will not be back to the “school” building this year, attending to their social emotional needs continues to be important. Based on the collaborative efforts of Mr. Endsley, our School Psychologist, and Mrs. Edwards, our Guidance Counselor, Prairie teachers will be addressing the following three topics through the end of the year during Tuesday & Thursday community circles.

  • Overall anxiety; no school for the rest of the year, the virus, etc…

  • Missing friends

  • Self-Care

Parents, you are welcome to join with your child to help support your learner.

  • On Tuesdays there will be a video or presentation for students to watch and then discuss

  • On Thursdays during community circle there will be a prompt to share/discuss, and a “challenge” related to the theme

  • The “challenge” would encourage students to be thinking about and applying the weekly theme on Friday and/or over the weekend

Related information and resources will also be shared with families each week in this newsletter. Mr. Endsley and Mrs. Edwards provided the following resources for you, as we prepare for our lesson next week focusing on anxiety around school closure:
