Weekly Update March 23 - 27, 2020
School Closed
THERE IS NO SCHOOL and at this time we do not have a return date. Please keep washing your hands, using hand sanitizer and put a safe distance between you and others. We all need to be vigilant during this trying time!
Please keep checking the School District of Beloit website for the latest information. sdb.k12.wi.us
The School District of Beloit is closely monitoring and following the current guidelines of the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) to remain up to date on procedures, practices, and precautions.
The State of Wisconsin has issued a state of emergency. It continues to be a fluid situation. International and domestic locations are being added to the restriction list which is impacting recommendations to schools regarding students, families, and staff travel. Based on the sources mentioned above, travel is highly discouraged.
Out of an abundance of caution and with the rising concern of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), we are requiring the following (students and families will be required to do the same):
Notify the District in advance if traveling by completing the attached form for tracking purposes: (TRAVEL PLANS 2020)
Staff who have traveled to a level 2 or 3 area are not to return to school or District events/activities for a period of 14 days.
If you choose to travel, the time you miss while self-quarantined (if required) will be excused.
All returning travelers should monitor themselves for symptoms of the illness, such as fever, cough, and difficulty breathing. Individuals should keep in mind that this may be re-evaluated as new guidance becomes available.
For travelers who do develop symptoms of COVID-19 within 14 days of travel:
Call your healthcare provider. Call ahead before you go to your doctor’s office or to an emergency room. Tell them your symptoms and that you traveled to an area of the world experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak.
Do not use public transportation, ride-sharing, or taxis.
If you have a face mask, wear it if you need to be around other people.
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough and sneeze.
Anyone needing emergency medical attention during their monitoring period should call 911 and let them know that they traveled to an area of the world experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak.
We understand the uncertainty COVID-19 brings and the anxiety it produces. This is a dynamic and difficult challenge for everyone and we are committed to providing accurate and timely information to our school community. The District will continue to follow the direction of our public health experts.
In closing, we wish to reiterate the importance of washing your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds, avoid touching your face, avoid close contact with individuals who are ill and for students and staff to stay home if you feel ill and consult with your doctor.
We will continue to reevaluate procedures and keep informed as COVID-19 challenges unfold, your understanding is appreciated.
Very truly yours,
Sue Green
