What is the coastal plains?
The coastal plains is a region with a lot of oil and chemical plant industries. Out of all the four regions below, the coastal plain is the biggest in population. This area is made up of people who are a mix of Hispanic and Anglo traditions. The landscape that these people live on is flat to gently sloping plains. It’s hot and humid but gets hit by tornadoes and hurricanes and gets 30 to 55 inches of rain per year!
Padre Island-geographic feature
Padre Island is the largest of the Texas barrier islands as well as the world's longest barrier island. It is famous for its' sandy beaches. In the summer it is hot and damp( this is padre islands main climate year round)
Houston- major city
Houston is a major city in the Coastal Plains. A man named Sam Houston was the leader of the Texas army during the Texas revolution. He chose a small town as his capital and renamed it Houston once they and won the war! This city now has a population of over 2.1 million people. Houston has a ton of tourist attractions. (It is hot and damp year round here in houston)
The Alamo-state park
A state park in the coastal plains is the Alamo. Originally known as Mission San Antonio de Valero, is a former roman mission and fortress compound and was the site of the battle of the Alamo in 1836. It is now a museum in the Alamo plaza of downtown San Antonio. It has a lot of pieces, guns and different artifacts from the battle! (It is hot and damp year round by the alamo.)
