PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
As we enter the holiday season, I am grateful for the kindness and generosity of our Roosevelt Community. We are in the middle of a toy drive and a coat drive. In addition, with the money we raised from the Tiger Trot this fall, we are in the process of purchasing a "shade structure" for the field. There is a considerable "lag time" for delivery and installation, but we are hopeful this can happen by June.
Also, some families may be considering a smartwatch or other GPS device for their child as a holiday gift. Please review the guidelines for devices at school, especially watches. This will be helpful for you to know.
Happy Holidays!
Dr. Dwyer, Principal

Electronic Device Guidelines
Click the photo to the right for the direct link to the D64 Parent Handbook device policy (p. 24).
Parents can help ensure smartwatches are set to not allow notifications from other apps by placing the device in a mode that does more than silence it. For instance, with an Apple Watch, a parent can put the device in “Schooltime” mode, which limits how the student can use the watch during school. Schooltime mode also easily allows staff members to see that the watch is configured to not be a distraction during school. You can find steps on how to 24 set up Schooltime mode here. Android users can find parental controls by following these steps. Parents can configure wearable smart devices in other available ways as long as students cannot communicate with the device or use any apps during school.
