the basic facts about potassium

Potassium was discovered by Sir Humphrey Davy in 1807 in England. No connection had been made to potassium and sodium yet. So when Davy started experimenting, he discovered that to make the vinegar and soap you had to make them out of different elements. He couldn't necessarily explain how the atom worked, but eventually a scientist named Dalton explained everything.

Potassium is a mineral that helps your muscles contract. It is very beneficial to your health, because it reduces the amount of Sodium (salts and vinegar) in your body. They go hand in hand. When you have too much Potassium, they will give you Sodium foods.

Potassium was the first metal isolated by electrolysis. Davy isolated sodium by a similar procedure later in 1807.
