One of a Kind, Roy!
Head Teacher Newsletter - Friday 24th June 2022
One of a Kind, Roy!
He was one of the first persons that I met when I arrived in Haughley and it has to be said, had it not been for his kindness, love, positivity, trust and faith, I probably wouldn't still be here.
Throughout my 5-year tenure at Crawford's, he has always been the biggest confidant, supporter and believer of me and the school! But more importantly, he has always been the children's biggest fan...and vice-versa!
It will never be the same without seeing Roy visit weekly to chat Mrs Barber up, or to arrive to raise the flag with the children for a British Flag Raising morning and a 20-minute (more like 45 minutes) talk to the children about our great sovereign, or to see him telling Pip and Gabi off for not turning the soil properly in our weekly gardening club, or to sit in my office and listen to one of his many stories casting such humour and wisdom!
We have been so fortunate to have worked, collaborated and lived with such a wonderful human being. Roy has left behind a legacy that will long live on in his memory! Only last year did Roy pay for our own school flag to celebrate with the children and to pay our respects. You can be sure the flag will be raised (it has been all week already) on Saturday and hereafter for the one and only...Roy Buttle!
Lest we forget, Roy. We will remember you!

Reminders...
Holiday requests
As we approach the summer holidays, we'd like to remind all parents and carers of the Tilian MAT's Attendance Policy, which notes that the government expects:
- Schools and local authorities to:
Promote good attendance and reduce absence, including persistent absence;
Ensure every pupil has access to full-time education to which they are entitled;
and act early to address patterns of absence.
- Parents to perform their legal duty by ensuring their children of compulsory school age, who are registered at school, attend regularly.
- All pupils to be punctual to their lessons.
We ask that parents/carers inform us of any planned absences by completing an Application for Leave of Absence Form, at least 14 days before the planned absence. Note that we are very unlikely to authorise any family holiday requests unless it meets the 'exceptional' criteria as detailed in the policy. As a Church of England school, we are reluctant to penalise families financially, but a penalty notice can be applied for any unauthorised absence. Fines are applied at a fixed rate of £60 per pupil, per parent - please see Suffolk County Council's website for further information.
Healthy Snacks
Please ensure your child has a healthy snack in school to have at break time - e.g., a piece of fruit, carrot sticks, muesli bar, yogurt tube. No chocolate bars or crisps please, and nothing containing peanuts.
Younger children (YR to Y2) have fruit or vegetables provided by the School Fruit & Veg Scheme.
Please note, that any snacks brought in to school will be collected by the Class Teacher and handed out at break time. Therefore, please can you ensure that any tubs, bags, etc are named.
Allergy Awareness - Nut Free School
We are an allergy-aware school and would like to remind all families that there may be pupils in school with a nut allergy. If a child with a nut allergy comes into contact with nuts, or with a pupil who has eaten nuts, then this could lead to an anaphylactic reaction. Anaphylaxis is a severe and potentially life-threatening reaction to a trigger such as an allergy.
Because of this, the school cannot accept products containing nuts to be provided in lunch boxes or for eating at other times.
Early-help - Breakfast and After School Clubs
Our Early-help Clubs for the following half-term can be seen below.
After School:
Monday - Athletics with GVTSSP
Tuesday - Basketball with GVTSSP
Wednesday - 'Green Fingers' gardening club with Gabi and Pip (Y2 upwards)
Thursday - OPAL/Forest School Activities with Mr. Hurkett
Friday - Computer Club with Mr. Hurkett
Clubs will are bookable in Arbor. Please ensure you pack a healthy snack for your child to have during After School Club and - as ever - let the office staff know if you don't need your place so they can free it up for someone else.
