"Lean On Me" by Bill Withers

Bill Withers Lean On Me

Just a couple simple lines of Bill Withers's "Lean On Me" song signals strong vibes. To me this song means to have reliance with a close friend. (When you need some support and help, you can always count on me. Not only I'll be there for you, I'll make the pain ease away. You can count on me because I can count on you.) The hook of the song, "Lean on me when you're not strong, and I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on. For it won't be long, 'til I'm gonna need somebody to lean on", perfectly describes the relationship Ponyboy and Johnny had.

Ponyboy and Johnny never went through a struggle alone because they always had each other's back. When Ponyboy ran away with Johnny in chapter three, Johnny didn't ask any questions; he just tagged along with him. They ran the farthest and fastest they can until they started to lose their breath. After Ponyboy finished bawling his eyes out and explained Darry hit him for the first time, Johnny said "I think I like it better when the old man's hittin' me. "At lease then I know he knows who I am." Ponyboy knew that Johnny's folks always attacked him. Ponyboy decided to take a walk to the park to cool off, then he'd go back home.

"Everything is Everything" by Lauryn Hill

Lauryn Hill - Everything Is Everything

Lauryn Hill says "I wrote these words for everyone. Who struggles in their youth."

Everyone has problems they have to deal with. Darry, Sodapop and Ponyboy lost both their parents due to a car accident. Ever since then, everything has been much harder for the brothers. Darry had to keep them under control along with the rest of the gang.

Not every kid lives a happy, carefree life. Some struggle because they don't have a family to take care of them. Johnny and Dally grew up with careless parents. Both of their parents ignored they even existed. The only time Johnny wasn't ignored by his parents is when he was getting abused by either one, or both of them.

"I See Fire" By Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran - I See Fire (Music Video)
After facing traumatizing experience, most people inherit mortal fears. In chapter 6, Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally ran into the burning church to save the little kids. Ponyboy thought they started the fire, so he had to go in and save them. Ed Sheeran sang "Now I see fire, inside the mountain. I see fire burning down the trees. I see fire, hollowing souls. I see fire, blood in the breeze. And I hope that you'll remember me." As Ponyboy and Johnny noticed the fire burn everything down, they tried to save the little children. The boys knew they were going to get hurt or die. Though, they didn't expect the entire town to remember them; they only wanted their loved ones to remember them.

"Yellow" by Coldplay

Yellow - Coldplay
Back in chapter three, Ponyboy and Johnny fell asleep in the park looking at the stars. "Look at the stars. Look how they shine for you." sang by Coldplay refers when Johnny told Ponyboy, "I can't take much more. "I'll kill myself or something." on the cold starry night. The incident changed thoughts about his own death. He didn't want to die; he didn't live long enough.

Every time Ponyboy sees stars high up in the sky, he can always think about Johnny Cade, just like how he thinks about Cherry when he sees sunsets.

"You've Got A Friend" by James Taylor

"You've got a Friend" By: James Taylor
People think and connect to this song in certain ways. This song reminds me how the entire gang was always looked out for each other. Darry always left his front door unlocked just in case one of the guys got in some trouble and needed a place to crash overnight. The entire gang loved each other like family; it was closest thing they all had to a family.

When James Taylor sang "You just call out my name, and you know where ever I am

I'll come running to see you again.Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call and I'll be there, yeah, yeah, you've got a friend." remarked the scene Dally called Darry because he was in desperate need of help and counted on the boys to rescue him. "It was Dally. He phoned from a booth. He's, just robbed a grocery store and the cops are after him. We gotta hide him. He'll be at the lot in a minute. " announced Darry in chapter ten.

Every single one of the Greasers dashed out the door and hurried to protect Dally.
