Is It Spring Yet?
Seriously? All this unseasonably warm weather has my body thinking that we're a month ahead of where we are. I actually pulled out the bubbles yesterday in a fit of madness and realized that bubbles and kids in puffy winter coats are a terrible combo. We'll get there yet, I'm sure of it. Until then we'll keep ourselves busy. This month we'll be doing a lot with colors and shapes. We'll also be hitting some broader social concepts like feelings. MWF kids are focusing on group work and problem solving, and because they're into it, letters. The TTh class will be doing lots and lots of counting and patterning. It's going to be a great month.
Event Information
Field Trip To Meridian Gymnastics Academy
We're going to have great time at Meridian Gymnastics Academy! Dress your preschooler in comfy clothes that they can move around it. Meet us there at 9:15am so that your preschooler is ready to go at 9:30am for an hour long class and free gym time. They need our help- so if you're coming along plan on helping to supervise an area of the gym. Siblings and other children 2 and over are welcome to come join in the fun, but plan on paying $4 for each additional child (preschoolers will be paid for by the school), and any child who is still 2 will need to be directly supervised by a parent the entire time.
They need a head count ahead of time, so if you'll be joining us please fill out the form I've included below.
Because this will be a combined trip for both classes, we will not be having preschool the next day, Friday March 13th.

St Patricks Day
We keep it pretty low key around here. We'll do some fun in class activities and make a special snack of Green Eggs and Ham.
Here's What February Looked Like
Shop Girls
Flower shop and other dramatic play help us practice higher level social skills.
Cuttin Up
Still plugging away at scissor work. I'll make good cutters of them all yet!
By The Numbers
Math concepts can be easily integrated and practiced in engaging and meaningful ways. Dramatic play scenarios are a wonderful vehicle for these skills.
Partner Work
The MWF class has been focusing a lot on partner work. Activities like these help us with all sorts of social and problem solving skills.
Be My Valentine??
The highlight of February is always Valentines day. Could it be any more cute? Don't let it fool you, though. It's also a great motivator for writing skills and letter recognition.
Special Delievery
The care and concern that the preschoolers put towards their valentines delivery is just about the most adorable thing you've ever seen. What you can't see in this picture is the row of preschoolers across from the table who decided they needed to monitor the whole event.
Whoops
Another failed project....we tried blowing the paint with straws, and then it turned more into a spit fest, with not so much painting going on. These paintings, needless to say, did not make it home. Oh well.
What I Like
Here it is, this is EXACTLY what I dream of at the beginning of the year. See these kids? All engaged, interested, and engrossed in what they are doing? We don't do rotations or mandatory projects, instead I trust that well planned centers designed around skill building will engage them.
Big Boys
About this time each year is when I pull out the group board games. These guys are doing awesome figuring out rules, negotiation play and taking turns. It's amazing!
Group Time
Cooperative play that engages everyone just warms my heart. Here a new tool set encouraged everyone to work together to "build" a city.
Let Me Help
I wish I had some audio of these two coloring and chatting. They were just like a couple of kindergarteners, which made me think about how they almost are kindergarteners, and that they're going to leave me. *sniff*
Whatever Works
I'm sure parents have moments where the mess is less hassle than enforcing the rules. Here's mine. Usually sensory stuff stays in the sensory table, but I was charmed by these fast talking girls who convinced me that the game the NEEDED to play meant beans on the table. I caved, and then found beans around the house for a solid week.
