First 2 Days of School

Dear CDS Community,

What a joy it was to see the smiles on our students' faces as they entered the building on Thursday morning! Students were full of energy and seemed determined to have an incredible year of learning in 2018-19! Many thanks to our fantastic staff for their enthusiasm and effort. I can assure you that each of our teachers is fully committed to offering your children the very best education possible this year.

We began the day with a Student Orientation in which we introduced the new CDS teachers, discussed changes from last year, and emphasized the importance of showing kindness, being inclusive, and owning our education. Later in the day students were introduced to some exciting co-curricular clubs for the Fall Season, and had time to prepare binders and learn how to keep their Chromebooks safe.

The highlight of the day was the Marshmallow Challenge---an activity that required students to Collaborate, Communicate, and think Critically in order to build the tallest tower in 18 minutes using only 1 meter of tape, 1 meter of string, 20 sticks of spaghetti, and a marshmallow. Everyone had a great time and learned something about teamwork in the process.

On Friday, students attended classes per the regular bell schedule and learned more about the expectations of their new teachers. During Lab time, students reconnected with their friends and released energy on the soccer field. There has been a lot of buzz about Student Council and we're very excited for the campaigning to begin next week!

Please see details about the week ahead within this week's Newsletter. Welcome back everyone!

Best regards,

Benjamin Scoville

Student Council 2018-19

At present we have the following number of students running for Student Council:

2 Students running for President

3 Students running for Vice President

1 Student running for Secretary

1 Student running for Treasurer

Grade Representatives:

0 5th Grade Reps

5 Sixth Grade Reps

0 7th Grade Reps

We would really like to see more students running for Secretary, Treasure, AND for Grade Representatives in 5th, 7th, and 8th grade.

Important: Because we would like to see more candidates running for Student Council, we will extend the nomination deadline to Monday at 4:00pm.

Remember to take risks students! So many of you would do an excellent job as student leaders. So... if you were on the fence (not sure but kind of wanted to run...) I encourage you to step up and give it a shot!
