La Vernia High School
Principal's Message
January 29, 2018
Dear La Vernia High School Community,
I hope this newsletter finds you well. As we enter the fourth week of the 2nd semester, I would like to thank our students, parents, teachers, and staff for a successful first semester of the 2017-2018 school year.
We are already off to a great start this semester with our students' accomplishments! I am very proud of our talented students and thankful for our dedicated staff who put in the additional hours for practices and competitions.
Last week was a busy week with the course fair/parent meetings and the college/career fair. If you or your student have any questions regarding courses for next year, counselors are available by phone, email, and in person by appointment.
Also, on Wednesday, we had a Burger Bash to celebrate the excellent attendance of approximately 100 students throughout the 2nd 9 Weeks. The next attendance incentive will run up until Spring Break, and we anticipate many more eligible students. In addition to those incentives, we also offer semester exam exemptions based on grades and attendance.
Our goal for attendance is 96%, and we are currently at 94.5%. Attendance by grade level is as follows:
- 9th Grade-95.56%
- 10th Grade-94.85%
- 11th Grade-94.37%
- 12th Grade-93.10%
Please help us by stressing the importance of regular attendance. If an absence is absolutely necessary, please make sure your student returns to school with a doctor's note or parent's note.
Progress reports for the first three weeks of this semester will go home this week.
The high school staff and I are committed to working with your students to achieve their goals and have a successful school year.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions, concerns, and ideas you would like to discuss.
Thank you,
Kim Martin
