NO SCHOOL- MARCH 18-Professional Development Day for Staff
A message from the Principal-Mrs. Bookman
To the Suffield Family:
I'm back!! It was so great to see all of the students today! It's been a short 6 weeks, but wow, how they've grown! For the next week or so, I'll be in and out of the office, trying to build stamina before returning to 100%.
I wanted to take the time to thank Mr. Lynch for filling in while I was absent. From what I've heard and can tell, he's done a fantastic job! I am happy that the students have gotten to know him a bit better. I know he's enjoyed the time he's spent here and will continue to be here once a week, as he had previously. I'm sure everyone will miss him!
I wanted to remind everyone that the annual state testing is approaching quickly! Students in grades 3, 4, & 5 will have ELA testing on March 23rd and 24th. We request that you refrain from appointments during those 2 days if at all possible. Of course, if your child is ill, they should not come for testing.
Next week, there is no school on Friday. Please keep this in mind as you make plans for the week. Our staff will be receiving professional development on this day.
Thank you again for all your kind thoughts, prayers, and well wishes in my recovery. I look forward to seeing many of you in the car rider line next week!
Have a great weekend....stay warm!!

Principal's Good News Call
Class Assignments 2022-2023
Discussions about class placements for the 2022-2023 school year will begin in April. If you have specific educational concerns for your child, please put this information in writing and send it to the office addressed to Mrs. Bookman. Please include learning environments that may work well for your child. Please do not request specific teachers as these will not be accepted or considered. We as a staff take great care in placing students in an appropriate learning environment that will best meet their needs. We try to create heterogeneous classes with a balance of genders and student needs. We use a system that is research-based and is proven to promote the most growth for all students. In order to have your concerns addressed, all letters must be received in the office no later than Friday, April 15, 2022. Any notification after this date will not be accepted.
5th Grade Camp
Although things with COVID are currently unknown and causing a great deal of issues in society, we are attempting to plan a possible camp experience for our 5th graders. Assuming things lighten up and the cases of COVID are what they were last Spring/Summer, the Fifth-grade students at Brimfield Elementary and Suffield Elementary will have the opportunity to attend camp at Camp Muskingum in Carrollton, Ohio from May 25 – May 27, 2022. The cost of the 2022 outdoor education program is approximately $145 per student.
Just a reminder, if you reserved your child’s spot at camp the 2nd installment of $50 is due on or before April 1st. If camp must be canceled due to COVID, any money you have deposited will be returned to you. To attend camp, all fees due to the school must also be paid in full. Contact the secretary if you have questions regarding this.

Counselor's Corner- A Note From Miss Livers
Building confidence in our students is important. Whether your child is full of confidence or seems to be in constant self-doubt, there are things we can be doing every day to help build those feelings of confidence. Here are some ideas for families to incorporate ideas on how to build confidence. One way to help children build confidence is by encouraging them to learn and try new things. Whether it is a new sport or activity, trying something new can help students gain the confidence to continue to grow and adapt to new environments. Although they may struggle at first, once they accomplish their goals, they will feel capable and competent. Similarly, giving your child age-appropriate responsibilities, like taking care of their things, taking care of a pet, etc. can help your child feel like they can contribute to making the world a better place. Like any skill or habit you want your child to pick up on, it’s important to model positive self-esteem. Children are always watching. When you turn your mistakes into opportunities to learn, use positive self-talk, or accomplish new things, your child will feel empowered to do the same.
Also: Careers! I am looking for parents, grandparents, or anyone who is part of the Field family who might be interested in recording themselves answering a few questions about their career, job, occupation, and/or trade school experience! I am hoping to create a library of careers for our students to explore and learn about. If you are interested in participating please email me at Emilee.Livers@fieldlocalschools.org. I look forward to connecting with you!

Birthday Treats-MUST be prepackaged, ONLY
At this time, we will allow Birthday Treats to be brought to school. We are required to inform you of the Healthy Eating Guidelines (see below) and suggest that you use this when selecting a treat. Whatever you choose, please note that all treats brought to school for the purpose of sharing with others, need to be prepackaged so we are able to know and see the ingredients list. There are many students who have a variety of food allergies and having the ingredients listed helps the school nurse determine if a student with allergies can eat a particular treat.

Each class will have an assigned time and will participate in these specials in a rotating sequence. One huge benefit will be that no special will regularly be missed because of school holidays. Your child’s teacher will let you know your child’s exact schedule. Be sure to check the breakfast menu to see what “day” we are on!
