Curriculum & Assessment News
Teachers are four months into instructing students on their grade level curriculum. The Meramec Valley R-III School District curriculum is matched to the Missouri Learning Standards.
We want you to have an understanding of a new monthly test, called Evaluate which is designed to encourage students to actively engage in their own learning. Students in grades 2 and above will take an online reading and math assessments each month based on all the learning goals for their grade level. Kindergarten and 1st grade students will take an ELA and Math assessment 4 times a year! After each assessment, students can access the previous month’s results, view their progress, and set goals for themselves.
When looking at the Evaluate progress report we want you to be aware that the monthly goal is for your student to increase or grow their learning each month. The end of year goal is for students to score an 80% in each subject area based on the skills we taught throughout the year. We want you to understand that a lower score in the beginning of the year is expected, as this type of test will show their growth throughout the year on all learning objectives. As students learn new concepts and gain more confidence with the test, their scores will grow. Check out the Celebration Board hung in the main hall of the school to see our growth this year.
Student MAP assessment reports will be sent home in January. A letter from the assistant superintendent will accompany the report explaining the new state test.
Second quarter grade reports will be sent home on Thursday, January 10th.
