A weekly newsletter - February 8, 2020
Message from Dr. Emily Delgado, Associate Principal of PHS
Happy Monday, Panther community! As I am sure you have noticed from our emails this week, we have had a few more COVID positive individuals on our campus identified this last week. We are always concerned to hear of any positive cases and worry for the health and safety of our staff, students, and their families. In order to slow the spread of COVID on our campus, it is so important that we all are vigilant in our efforts to keep one another safe. Just as a reminder – please be sure to keep your child home if they have been directly exposed to an individual that has tested positive to COVID-19 or if they exhibit any of the symptoms listed below.
- Fever greater than or equal to 100 degrees
- Chills
- A new or uncontrolled cough
- Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- Muscle or body aches
- New severe headache
- Sore throat
- Vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal pain
- New loss of taste or smell
Additionally, please call our school nurse, Donna Bartko, immediately if your child either tests positive with COVID-19 or has been directly exposed to someone who has tested positive. The better that we communicate with one another, the more safe we can keep everyone.
We have a couple of significant events coming up next week. On Friday, February 12th at 4:30 p.m. our 6th IPR snapshot will take place. Students will be able to gain eligibility for UIL extra-curricular activities based on the grades reported at this time. If the grades reported at this time allow a student to gain UIL eligibility, they will become eligible to participate again on February 19th. Please remind your child to check his/her grades using their Skyward student portal; additionally, parents are able to check student grades and attendance on the parent portal. If you have any questions or need assistance accessing your parent portal, please reach out to our Parent Liaison, Kristen Hernandez. You can reach her via email at Kristen.hernandez@pfisd.net or in her office at (512) 594-0583.
Also, please remember that Friday, February 12th is a student holiday. Students will return to school on Monday, February 15th.
Emily Delgado, Ed.D.

Parents - Free Assistance to Start a New Career!
SkillPoint Alliance is a program located in Austin, Texas. The program provides assistance with starting a career FREE OF CHARGE. Participants can choose from the following career paths:
- Pre-Apprentice Plumbing
- Pre-Apprentice Electrician
- HVAC Technician
- Certified Production Technician
- Nursing Aide
Each program lasts 4-7 weeks. They have a 98% hiring rate after you complete the program. This is accomplished because the companies hiring are the teachers. Most participants have a job offer before them complete the program.
But WAIT! There’s more! If you need childcare assistance, they provide that; if you need transportation assistance, they provide that as well. Due to COVID, programs are being conducted online; therefore, participants do not have to leave the comfort of their homes.
There are stipulations that need to be followed.
1.) You must have a high school diploma or a GED to participate (This would be great information for Seniors who need a free, fast-track career option).
2.) There is additional assistance for those who do not have citizenship.
3.) Must be fully dedicated to doing the work
