Salmon Week 13 Update
December 5th-December 9th
December is Here full of Cheer!!!
Peek at the Week Ahead
We have three weeks until Winter Break. I know it is a busy time filled with excitement and joy. I have been talking with the kids that this is a time to work hard on helping those around us. That it does not cost money to bring joy to our friends and neighbors (shovel a driveway without being asked, bring the mail for those near by, and hold the door and a simple "Thank you" goes a long way).
Reading: Next week are reading Eye of the Storm a primary source of documenting a hurricane in Florida. This often leads to great investigations of tornados, hurricanes and all kinds of natural disasters by the students. We will be reviewing and focusing on the reading skill of cause and effect.
Writing: We will be visiting the computer lab next week to type our papers. The students will have Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday to complete this task. The following week we will be peer editing and fixing our mistakes. Students will be asked to bring home the rough draft the weekend of December 10th and 11th to review it with a parent. This is mainly to help with spelling. I will be sending home a simple checklist to use as a guide.
Please note that all posters are due Monday, December 19th.
Science: Simple Machines are the focus this month. We have learned about the six different simple machines: pulleys, lever, wheel and axle, inclined plane, screw and wedge. Have students identify anything that may have a simple machine.
Social Studies: We are starting the Northeast region, so that means a quiz over the state names and identifying them. Our quiz will be in two weeks, Thursday, December 15th. The quiz is always the same format with a the state outline and the student needs to label the map.
