Principal's Message

I hope you and your family had a relaxing and memorable Christmas break. I'm sure it looked very different than the usual, but hopefully joy and blessings were to be found!

January has blessed us with a nice warm return to school! There were many smiling faces on the children as they played in the snow at recess this morning. After two weeks of Christmas break preceded by several weeks of Code Red where we had very few kids in school, it is awesome to have so many of our students back in the building and on the playground!

The first two weeks of January will look a little different as we still have some students receiving remote learning at home. We don't know what school will look like after the 15th, but as soon as we have updates to share, we will be contacting families with further information. No matter what things look like, we will continue our commitment to ensuring your children are receiving the best education we can provide, within the limits we are working in, while keeping their safety at the top of our priorities.

Happy New Year and all the best in 2021!

A Message from our Parent Advisory Council

We invite anyone interested to join our AGM meeting January 14 at 6:30 pm. Please contact elmdaleparentcouncil@gmail.com for the Zoom meeting link or if you would like to know more about the PAC.

Along with the usual business we will be filling the following roles on our Parent Advisory Council for the fall of 2021:
Vice chair - vacant (2021/22)
Treasurer - vacant (2021/22)

As policies and procedures have changed throughout the fall, we have been adjusting our library protocol to ensure we are utilizing our library resources in a safe way. Thankfully we have a plan in place that allows students browse books in our library: Students sanitize their hands on their way into the library, and books are regularly cleaned. When a student signs out a book, that book is quarantined and sanitized before it is put back into circulation. We feel that these procedures allow us to protect our students while also giving them a chance to look for their own books.

All students (including those doing remote learning) are also allowed to use the online sign-out system in Destiny Discover (instructions attached).

We look forward to seeing students continue to grow their love for reading.

Book Fair - Save the Date

We will continue with our annual Scholastic Book Fair this February, but due to COVID restrictions will be moving it online. Please stay tuned for further information. This online Book Fair will take place February 22-March 5, 2021.

Pick up & Drop Off

Since it's been a while since we were in usual pick-up and drop off routine, we would like to remind families of a few pick-up and drop-off procedures. Please review them all, but we especially want to remind you of the following:

1. DO NOT enter the bus loop prior to 8:50 and 3:45. NO EXCEPTIONS!

2. DO NOT pass a bus that is dropping off or picking up children. This may result in your license plate being reported to the RCMP.

3. DO NOT park in the staff parking lot. Please stick to the family parking lot or wait until after 8:50 or 3:45 to drop off and pick up.

Staff will be monitoring the bus loop and having conversations with individuals as necessary.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our staff and students safe during the pick-up and drop off procedures. CLICK HERE for further details.

Birthday Treats - Reminder

If you are sending a birthday treat for your child's class, please remember that these must be factory individually prewrapped. We cannot serve home-baked items at this time, or items that parents wrap themselves. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The most common question we are asked is whether or not a child should remain home because they are sick. We are not medical professionals, so we are simply following the provincial health guidelines found HERE as well as the summary sheet created by HSD found HERE. Please familiarize yourself with these documents. If still unsure, contact HealthLinks or your family doctor for advice.

We understand that this may cause inconvenience and stress - please note that we are simply following Public Health Orders and policy handed to us by Manitoba Health and Manitoba Education.

Kindergarten Registration 2021-2022

Please note that our Kindergarten registration for the fall has been delayed until February 15. If you have a child born in 2016, please watch for further information about online registration coming shortly.
